Using references is the most important rule of all, dont make the same mistake as me and waste years because your ego wants to be able to draw from imagination when you dont have the fundamental building blocks in your head to do so.

"focus on fundamentals only" mistake hit so hard. few weeks ago i've realized I focused for YEARS on studies instead of actual art, and now I feel like beginner doing actual art. having fun, seeking style, putting emotion, and what i want to do at all, even if I'm not completely helpless. weird state tbh

Another addition to the 5th rule;
Compare your art to your older art to see how much you improved,
This gives you a sense of progress when you feel stuck and it is a confidence boost when you see how much you have grown.
However if it seems no improvement was made at first glance, then it is best to analyze the old and new art in details to reflect on what you need to improve. Since you haven't interacted with the old art in a while, a fresh glance at it could reveal the mistakes you made in your old and new art alike so you find a clear goal of what to improve on.

I'm going to warn everyone right now about feedback, your going to find that 99% of people out there either don't know wtf they're talking about, they'll either lie to you to try and not hurt your feelings or trash your stuff because they're a troll or jealous or they plain out don't have any credability. the other aspect is actually finding people TO CRITICIZE your work~ because their favorite fricken thing is to stay silent when things suck, because in the art world they don't want to be the mean guy to hurt your feelings, i've been doing this 20 years i've lost so many friends just being honest that its stupid they flip a table when they ask for criticism

I lock myself in a room full of reference pictures i want to draw, and then i do it. And then i draw it. And then after i wake up again the next morning, i see all my flaws and do it all over again

挫折をしっかり受け止める勇気が一番大事ですね。自分添削を習慣にしています。最近気付いたことがあります。それは一つの課題に対し、壁に直面した痕跡を見つけることがあります。だいたいそのようなものは、紙の隅に関係のない落書きをしています。たぶん負けを認めたくないのでしょう。自分が得意だと錯覚しているものを描いて、気を紛らわしているのだと思います。過去の自分添削をして、課題から逃げない、休日中に克服する。このようにして、徐々にではありますが、迷宮入りが減りました。

Getting feedback is hard when you have no followers and most of your friends are not interested in art, i think getting to know other artist also helps you grow. but its a part that im struggling with atm.
Also, if you are going to compare, compare to yourself, if you improve and see your old artwork it helps you keep the motivation up

I haven't drawn for so long. I started to draw recently and realized how bad my skills have become and it further made me feel like crap besides being tired from mundane desk job that I hate. It is like the only thing I am proud of and good at no longer stays with me. Glad I found your channel and thanks for the kind words

I think a common issue with comparison is the inclination to compare your current art directly with the art of much more experienced artists without factoring in how much more time they've spent seriously working on art compared to you. That's an unrealistic comparison that sets you up for failure, as you're expecting yourself to match their skill immediately despite them being at a different moment in the journey of art. This applies whether that experienced artist is an industry pro or a child prodigy. But if you recognize the experience they have behind their belt, others' art can become a positive source of inspiration instead.

2:35 as someone who sees doctors regularly ( like monthly , i have health issues) i can confirm that older doctors suck ; they are usually biased towards diagnosing certain conditions
