Great list, Chris. Harvest always reminds me of my early days of buying records (ELO, The Move, Deep Purple...) so I'm instantly transported back 55 years or so. They were great times 😊
My "go-to" reference for great Harvest tracks is the double album Harvest sampler "Picnic" (Breathe Of Fresh Air) (at the time brilliant value for money) which included a lot of the bands in the video, but other excellent tracks by "Pete Brown (the lyricist for Cream) and Pibloko" (Golden Country Kingdom), Michael Chapman (Postcards from Scarborough), the Syd song Terrapin from Madcap. The song from Pink Floyd was the super-rare (at the time not on an album or single) "Embryo". I went out and bought Pretty Thing's Parachute on the basis of the track "The Good Mr Square" which is beautiful. The Third Ear band with "Water" is on it and certainly different as is "Maybe My Mind (With Egg)" by Tea and Symphony which sounds like Family. Who could forget Pete Brown's other band The Battered Ornaments with "Twisted Track". 😊
Excellent choices, as always! It’s always a real pleasure. we can clearly see the hard work that goes into your vlogs; there are never any dull moments in your presentations. Bravo from Québec City !
Try the Edgar Broughton Band, especially eponymous third album from 1971 opening track "Evening Over Rooftops". Also their single Hotel Room/Call Me A Liar from the same year, neither track appeared on an album but represents the two musical sides of the band, both at their best.
Great video Chris, I was hoping you were going to include Syd's 'Octopus' and Wire's 'Outdoor Miner' (didn't know the single version of that was longer than the album one). Those early Harvest Wire singles go for crazy money these days. It's weird, but because the post-Meddle Floyd albums don't actually feature the Harvest label, I never think of the band as still being on Harvest during their peak years.
Hi Chris, what a great idea Harvest are obviously only well known for having Pink Floyd and Deep Purple but such great choices a couple I wasn't even aware of! Wire the first 3 albums were favourites of mine! But what a wonderful label it was very diverse! Excellent Chris!
An eclectic list and label.. sat waiting for wire .great choice by the way brilliant single. And of course this perfect day. 👌👌 Keep them vids. coming ..👍
Brilliant Chris. Great selection from my personal favourite label ever! 😊
Syd Barrett’s two Harvest albums were reissued as a two-fa in 1974. A much cheaper version if you can find.
Have you ever heard the John Lees (BJH) solo album called A Major Fancy? Was meant to come out in 73 but got a belated release in 77. Absolutely brilliant album and one that I wrongly passed up for years.
Some great selections Chris. No surprise to see Purple in there 😁. Wonderful to see Focus and Jan Akkerman to be included (Fresh Air is my favourite track from Akkerman outside of Focus). Ditto the Softs. But nothing from The Albion (Dance) Band 😡!
Great list. Amazing how many of your picks would have been mine - though Magic Woman Touch, later covered by the Hollies, would be my Greatest Show On Earth choice.. I immediately wondered if you had The Banned 45s. Excellent underated punk. The single you showed shares a common bond with St. Michaels Blues by Climax B.B. - the B-side of Little Girl, "C.P.G.J's" is a mickey--take on New York club CBGBs, and the Climax B.B. track is a satire on every gutbucket blues song ever released. Remarkably similar to what is found on the Bakerloo album you showed. The Dave Mason album is quite common - and inexpensive - on marble vinyl here on the West Coast. I think I told you before that I saw BJH at an outdoor festival in Kendal 1971. One of my defining memories is the mellotron inro-strains of Mockingbird wafting over a thankfully dry hillside from the fairy-light stage on that warm summer night. I'll take it to the grave.
I have the Saints, Wire and some Deep Purple stuff Chris but never connected them to the one label ... wouldn't have dawned on me that they could be on the same label, diverse indeed.
Thoroughly enjoyed that list, lots of material in the 20s and late teens I’m less familiar with so plenty to go off and investigate. What caught my attention though was the cover of the Climax Chicago album … I have a feeling that it’s actually a photo of Ed Cassidy, drummer with Spirit … or am I dreaming that up? Cheers, Chris
Hi Chris, I'm back, dunno how long for though. I've missed these streams. After the nail in the eye incident, had a few ops for infection, cataract etc. Harvest was a more Prog leaning label, but I do own a few records on Harvest, like The Banned, Little Girl (demo) and The Saints, which I have 4 or 5 of theirs, including (I'm) Stranded, Erotic Neurotic, This Perfect Day and the double single One Two Three Four, sure I've got one more, I'll have to have a look. Anyway, great stream an i hope to see more. I've had my order's from the hospital to avoid TV and Computers etc for a while anyway.
This Perfect Day All Day Everyday please! Curious to hear the single version as I only own the US album version on Sire. Close to perfection punk. Center of the Universe from the same LP is right up there as well.
