Nice picks Chris. Agree the Vertigo label had some great artwork on their swirl albums, even if the music didn't always live up to it. Interesting you showed Sultans of Swing which is a song I never seem to tire of, followed by Enter Sandman which is one I definitely do...cheers Dale
My favourite has to be paranoid, the first album i ever bought, got quite a bit of other stuff on vertigo, autobahn, quo, thin lizzy. But vertigo swirl = sabbath for me
Hi Chris, Blooming superb stuff! The poster was Ramases a band with 10cc backing a guy who thought he was err Ramases reincarnated! Ahem! What I miss now is labels had an identity in the 70's and you would go for the label if you didn't know the band! I actually used to do it with Chrysalis records! But so much interesting stuff on Vertigo a wonderful label! I love this stuff Chris keep them coming! Alex Harvey Faith Healer joyous stuff!! Oh I cheated got both the Mayblitz albums on cd! 😂
Excellent picks, Chris! Uncannily Quo were my first live band too, although it was the following year. Very pleased to see Autobahn in your list, I agree the single version is better than the LP, also great to see Joybringer. As for City Boy, my recommendation would be their 1976 album Dinner At The Ritz, superbly crafted art rock ☺
Thanks Chris, Vertigo swirls are very collectable. Tudor lodge's eponymous sole studio album (1971) can be valued at over £1,000. Graham Parker's 'Howlin' Wind' is a classic, and a favourite of Bruce Springsteen, who later guested on 'The Up Escalator'
Another great video, Chris. Got me spinning some Vertigo as I write this, which can be no bad thing. Up next, Gravy Train and a liberal dose of Uriah Heep. 👌
Enjoyable list Chris with some good rockers. Some familiars and some not (which I'll check out). Anna Meek sang in Catapilla and sister of Jo Meek. Two back to back great albums for me and I actually like Meeks'' voice though prefer Inga Rumpf's husky androgynous voice within the prog veins' era. Excellent pick on Colosseum, Uriah Heep and Aphrodite's Child {on a par for me with 'All the Seats Were Occupied' extravaganza). The '666' album is based on the biblical book of Revelation. Title track 'Salisbury' is killer. 'Jailbreak' and adjacent releases are my favorite Thin Lizzy with 'Sun Goes Down' another final favorite, especially the YT live versions. They got heavy FM airplay here. For me Black Sabbath and May Blitz's debut is their crowning achievement.
Very diverse and interesting overview...and surprising to see so many singles...anna meek was the vocalist on the first catapilla album...and robert calvert is NOT that robert calvert from hawkwind...he used to run a wellknown record store in england...you cover all bases timewise...but i still favour the imperial phase. .1970 to 1975....my favourite vertigo song to play your little game by cressida...
Young Men Gone West by City Boy is pretty good. It came out in 1977 and got lost amidst the punk arrival. It's good but you can see why it wasn;t a hit coming out at that time.
