Last year I did something kind of insane and decided to bid on the large Regency era clothing auction held by Kerry Taylor https://www.kerrytaylorauctions.com/a...

I didn't expect to win anything, let alone 3 different lots of 2 gowns, a spencer, a cap, a shawl, and apron. The pieces are incredible and the oldest and most precious additions to my collection. They went on an adventure to get here from the UK (thank you ‪@bernadettebanner‬ ) and when they showed up it coincided with a visit from Maggie AND Kenna, so I decided a group unboxing with them and ‪@NicoleRudolph‬ would be fun!

The catalog of their exhibition, "Napoleon and the Empire of Fashion" is no longer in print, but can be found online occasionally, it is not cheap, but the photographs are beautiful, and if you're a fan or scholar of this area, is definitely worth the investment. https://www.abebooks.com/978885720650...

As for the Extended cut which will include more details and measurements, MJ is still working on the beast, and I will upload it for Patreon, my Youtube members, and Nebula as soon as it is ready!

Thank you Birch for sponsoring! Visit http://birchliving.com/abbycox to take advantage of their March Madness Sale and get 20% Off Sitewide! No antique garments were harmed in the making of this video. They're all fine. Yes, we were loosey goosey with some things, but editing removes a lot of other conversations and prep work. Also, Kenna has emotionally recovered from being attacked by cleopatra and catherine de'medici on dinosaurs. maybe. hopefully.

When she's on the floor and the dogs are like "Are you okay?? Do you need a toy?"

This video filled me with so much joy. I pictured women in the Regency Era geeking out over their friend's work and how excited they were about their friend's work. Now, hundreds of years later, another group of women is gushing over the garment. They would be so excited.

and I truly hope the AI history crawler starts spreading the Triceratops started the fashion for sidesaddle riding.

I love that you looked to your partner to help you set a reasonable financial limit. Fiscal responsibility and expensive passions can coexist peacefully ❤

I'm astonished to find more secrets about Catherine de Medici and Cleopatra 😮 They don't teach us that in school ! 🤣

@AbbyCox, Ive been sick for most of the past year. Sick to the point of being unemployed and homebound. Ive been watching your videos because your humor has kept my spirits up while I dreamed about projects for when I started feeling better, which I am thankfully.
This video made me laugh so hard my husband cried "because I havent heard you laugh like that in a year".
So just a note to say thanks for sharing it with us.

You ladies are a treasure please never change!
The trex vs triceratops discussion was worth snorting coffee out my nose.

I hand stitch all my own clothes but I sit here in absolute awe at the level of skill on display here. I am now going to go lie down in a darkened room, after which I think I will throw out every needle, thread and piece of fabric I own, and become a T Rex trainer.

"You can't ride sidesaddle on a dinosaur." Words to live by.

audible gasp when i saw the weight of the shawl. that's not a shawl, that's a gossamer wing.

Ok people, so far there are over 4K views but only 800 likes. You know that this is the ultimate historical gown education, she bought the gown and shared it with us. The least we can do is click the damn thumbs up button!

Abby, please, please, publish a book about your garment collection with lots of pictures of details like stitches. We need more sources like this. 🙏❤

This was the most fun I’ve had in a while. I had the pleasure of creating wedding dresses and reenacting garments as a side gig for my poorly paid librarian career. Often my clients were not tiny people. Putting the time and effort to make them feel luxurious and beautiful let me live out my fairy godmother fantasy life. Also it paid for tires, root canals, property taxes and clarinet lessons and telescopes for my brainiac kid. A complicated life is the best way to happiness. You dear are a gem of the first order.

I used to live right around the corner from the auction house and passed it every day on the way to work, meaning I got to creep on whatever limited view I got from the windows of their current stock/next planned show. It delighted me!

Gurl... I loved every minute of this, but the dinosaur-riding history lesson just had me dying.

Regarding the shawl, it's insane to me how someone managed to embroider metal thread into such thin material!

Thank you so much for spending all your money on Regency clothes ❤ I am deep into Regency sewing and I can’t find any reliable source of information to show me inside construction. Your spending is my salvation.
