In this video, I react for the first time to System Of A Down performing "Chop Suey". In this video, I analyse their amazing performance, explain and demonstrate Serj Tankian's vocal techniques and I'll tell you what I think made it so great.

This was the second installment in my SOAD journey! I also enjoyed Daron Malakian's vocal contribution very much!

You got it. The song was originally titled, Suicide. However, the record label didn't like it so they Chopped Suicide... to Chop Suey. 👍🏽😉

You’re basically the audience that any artist wishes they might reach with their work. Incredibly empathetic and analytical too. Welled up at this.

The bit where they are eating – yes, it's Chop Suey – is a direct poke at the record company for not letting them use their title ("Suicide"). Their bored expressions are perfection.

11:54 The sad look on your face when Serj says "Why have you forsaken me ?" Kinda hit hard. You know exactly what these lyrics are all about.

Holy shit! Her breakdown was absolutely incredible. She got all of it and then some, immediately on the first listen. Bravo.

I love it! She even breaks down two vocal harmonies and if that is'nt enough, she records herself singing the exact two vocal harmonies and she sings the piano notes to make it a third part harmony! Fucking brilliant baby!

The EXACT replication of any sound made by any artist in these reactions is why this channel is my favorite. If you close your eyes, you'd swear it was the isolated vocal track of the singers themselves, but it's just Lolli doing perfect audio impersonations. Incredible! 10/10

6:28 You got Serj'd. We all have at some point.

really like your interpretation on this song, and you’re pretty much right!
from Daron (the guitarist) this song is about how as people we judge others based upon how they die.
he used drug abuse as an example, saying that if he were to die of drug abuse, people would say he deserved it for abusing drugs in the first place.

12:35 HOLY SHIT You can SING ! sounds so amazin how much heart and sould you put in your pure art to explain things and feel the song. YOU are absolutely amazing.

I've never heard a better explanation of the song before today. I was (and remain) ever astonished at how well you are able to articulate what depression is like. a fellow sufferer and survivor appreciates everything you do and are, my Light in the Darkness!

love that you picked up the differences between Serj and Darren screaming father! So many others have said Darren's "father" is just a deliberately bad form of Serj's to counteract it. But no... difference is exactly what you said. Full on screaming, verse wailing. Different people's reactions to trauma... anger... outrage... grief... .loss and all that. One of my favorite bands of all time and it's great to see reactors actually picking up the meaning behind metal songs. Rather than so many of the older generations, (not all, don't get it twisted,) saying that metal as a genre is just screaming and satanism. Like seriously, listen behind the screaming and heavy instrumentals.

you’re right about the title!
the original was ‘Self-Righteous Suicide’ but their label wouldn’t allow it, so instead it’s: Self-Right- ‘Chop Suey!’ -cide.
super unique way of getting around it.

It’s comforting and emotional to finally hear someone else talk about the meaning of this song out loud and understand it. Seeing your facial expressions makes me understand you, and all of us here have each other to support. Thank you for bringing that to light. 11:52

Lolli has to be the best human being in the world. I've forgotten how many times I've heard her say how she's proud of human beings. I wish I could be as optimistic.
