Wish someone had moved the microphone a bit closer… very thought provoking as always though!

Bra at venstresiden prøver seg på litt selvrefleksjon!!

Universal emancipation sounds good in practice as it allows the majority of unrelated groups to live in the same geographical region without too much friction. The trouble is that the majority group has rejected this vision, perceiving it as a threat to undermine their society with a loose patchwork of people all claiming a right to live as they choose without any need to integrate into the host group. Unrelated people with nothing in common will inevitably look to their own ethnic or religious identity, so the formerly fairly integrated society fractures into pressure groups all fighting for their own corner. No unity, then, and a Balkanisation might occur, as more extreme elements provoke confrontation, knowing they'll find fertile ground amongst the various disgruntled populations. As a recipe for stability, it is disastrous. As a horrific way of destroying a nation-state's power, it's grimly clever. If nation-states, the only official enforcers of law in the world, are compromised by ethnic strife, their ability to control the predations of the Mega-wealthy is eroded, and it's a free-for-all for the rich. We've already seen what deregulation led to: the 2008 crash. Imagine no checks or balances on wealthy corporations and individuals, it would be a Noe-Medavilist society. The vast majority of humanity is reduced to serfdom, menaced by crime gangs, ethnic division, and the pressures of the rich and the soon-to-be Private Armies, their weakened nation-states unable to protect them. Progress; what progress?

It depends on whether the proto consevatives are prepared to broadly align with the pro individualists. In my view.

Blair and Thatcher were great leaders but the problem was WHAT? I simply must know John's answer to this!!!! What an horrible spot to have the video cut off

17:00 fascinating

Social breakdown, abandonment of young people & the  elderly & protection from displacement from mass immigration is why I am interested in John  Gray's ideas.

It would probably help if we would figure out a way to tax the wealthy and distribute that wealth by  having public healthcare for example…

The current politicians are politically bankrupt and are unable to, or unwilling to, acknowledge this.

My question is how do we know what is going on in the Middle East?

Worth Watching despite rapid diction and lousy subtitles !!! 🤔

My mother's family had Jewish friends in the 1950s.  They were successful business people.  They like to dine out.  They were often insulted in the street and even in restaurants.  This would be by white Christian British people.  This is before neo liberalism and woke it's before hippies.

It's fascinating how the word "liberal" has come to mean "conservative", word that has been secreted from examination.

Public intellectuals always exaggerate when they are in public! Still if you throw in a few pinches of salt, no doubt there's plenty there. Worth thinking about. Whilst he is right about Labour incompetence. They are after all the only progressive party that is looking at ways to change the way The ECHR works and perhaps make it more like the original post-war settlement that he harks back to. They are also the only progressive party to talk seriously about substantial reductions in overall net immigration. None if this may work of course but I don't quite recognise his picture of a hopelessly woke party. Although no doubt it has some truth in it

Post 1945 Liberalism particularly has been like an acid on our civilisation.
My part of London collapsed into something between Mogadishu and Karachi in the 80s.
The scale of White flight has been massive.

Hes doesnt understand that Thatcher hated such communities because they were the organised working class
See Miners strike

John needs the cognitive breakthrough - the realisation that all the other groups are tribal and will always see colour. Extrapolate that reality in the context of demographic trajectory. There will be no DEI or native rights for us when we are the minority. The others don't think like that, which is why we had to fight them to end slavery.

Gray is a genius. He has just delivered a master class of gaslighting.

John Gray is the personification of Britain:  the illusion that glib deceit is a sufficient substitute for competence and excellence.
