DISCLAIMER: We know little to nothing about UK history, and as a result may ask some dumb questions or make comments that seem a bit ridiculous 😅😅😅😅

Rest assured, no harm is intended by any comments made or questions asked and we are excited to learn!! 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

This is also our first official reaction video, so please cut us some slack for the slight awkwardness at times as we try to figure out the balance of watching and reacting 😅😅😅😅

PS) Unfortunately Mark got sick just before the filming of this reaction and couldn't make it; let the man know how much you miss him in the comments!!

4:45 "We have horse and carriage here but did they have it there?". My soul just died hearing that question.

Please note that almost all churches and cathedrals you encounter are still ACTIVE places of worship, even if they charge entry to tourists. That means please take off your cap upon entry, be quiet and behave respectfully. I have witnessed some shocking behaviour over the years. Also, if you're in a very old churchyard, there might be bone fragments that have come to the surface. Do not, under any circumstance, pick those up and take them home. Again, stuff I have seen US Americans do.
The UK is an absolutely amazing country, I'm sure you will enjoy your trip. Bring good walking shoes and rain gear.
Would recommend watching Geography Now on the UK and Map Men on British place names.

The Hunchback of Notre-Dame is set in Notre-Dane Cathedral in Paris.

Nearly 50% of the UK is grassland. This was just focusing mainly on the city's shopping areas, are you going to the Cotswolds or The Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, The Peak District, Devon, Dorset, etc etc while you are in England? you might find some grass 😆

Also check out how the british ended slavery, and " what did the British ever do for us?".

Most of our architecture is exactly as it was and untouched only well kept to preserve its presence.A village is small, a town is big, a city is bigger. And we preserved our heritage very well. Many of our small vilages and towns are very reminicent of the old days. And if you want to see grass we have some of the most beautiful countrysides in the world.

You guys have such a gigantic culture shock coming. The UK has a vast wealth of visible history, and yes - most of us take it for granted as we live with it and in it every day. Not just hundreds but thousands of years old. For info, the United Kingdom is made up of the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on the islands of Britain (from the Roman name - Britannia). For the most part the nations get along harmoniously (other than the sporting rivalry) despite our feuding ancient history, as we're all mostly a genetic mix of all of these peoples. The language that we (and you) speak is a composite of Anglo-Saxon, Danish, Norwegian, Welsh (Celtic), Norman French and Latin. You'll have a wonderful time over here.

There are 4000 castles in the UK.

Less than 6% of the UK is actually built upon. The rest is a mixture of rolling countryside, moorland, various agriculture. The rest is owned by the incredibly posh types with double-barrelled surnames, Range Rovers and oversized, oddly-angled teeth thanks to all the inbreeding.

Congratulations upon choosing the most drab video available. That said, at least we aren't having to watch you carve a roast with a ladle or butter your toast with a bottle opener.

Only kidding. Love the channel, never miss one.

Great that your coming to visit. Have fun. You're very, very welcome. 👍

8:45 "you are stepping out of your house and into the street!" Well, duh! That is actually fairly common here!! But with those old Elizabethan houses each level overhung the level below to the point where you could just about shake hands with the person in the house opposite!! It's so wierd to us to realise how little history America has! Everywhere in Europe you see such amazing historical architecture we take it for granted.

Like they say about Americans, there's more culture in a yoghurt.......

How we got around was by horse and cart or shanks’s pony (walking). Wait till you get here, your legs are going to get the biggest workout. Which is how it should be.

@noelle3551 1 year ago

The horse and cardiage conversation got me. Seriously, guys! The horse and carriage has been around for Millennia!

Those are roads, they are just a LOT smaller than in the US. In a lot of places they are still cobbled.
Most towns and cities are walkable, we can go more than 10 yards without getting into a car.
Churches and cathedrals are still fully functioning places of worship, protected by the Church of England mainly, though there are also Catholic and other denominational locations. They may well also serve as places of education in larger areas, though not all small parish properties are open at all times.
The whole of the UK is covered by a system of parishes, though nowadays, due to more people being secular, church attendance is not as common.

Before my mum met my step dad he lived in a house that had been started in ~1430 and was finished in ~1470. When he had just finished law school, and had an American girlfriend, she was quite overawed by the history, and rang her mother to tell her about it.
"Don't worry", said her mother. "He's going to be a lawyer, so pretty soon he'll be able to afford a new house."
Enough said, I think!

These guys are going to be shocked by how much walking we do daily. They seem surprised every time they see someone walking, lol. I'd say, start preparing for your trip by walking an hour a day. I naturally walk 10-12k steps daily, and that’s with just doing the essentials. Sometimes I hit 23-25k just because I decided to pop to the shops!

I live in a little village in the English countryside and my home is a Tudor half timbered cottage built in 1501. Most of the interior is original to the cottage with the exception of the front windows and obviously plumbing and electricity. I had friends over from America and it was their first time in England, they couldn't grasp that the little wooden staircase they'd go up and down every day or the floor they would walk on was older than their country. In stark contrast, when I visited the same friends, their town in the US was knocking down their oldest building built in 1910 as it was considered too old and dated and the town wanted to build 'new and shiny'. We have a plethora of historical buildings in the U.K because we respect, preserve and appreciate our past, as it makes us who we are.
