Fun fact:

The space below the Cat's eyes fills with water and when a vehicle drives over them they depress into the space and little brushes clean the lenses. Genius! 🇬🇧🇺🇸💜

I forgot which comedian said it, but I remember the joke. "In America and other nice places, the weather's nice and they go out to play. In Britain, you see the wet and cold weather and say 'Fk that' and go into the shed and invent things that makes staying indoors better."

Not only did we invent hundreds of things, we fought everyone too, considering how small a country we are, it's insane. I remember when the teasmade was very popular 😃

He didn't mention the chocolate bar.....where would we be without that British invention!!!!😂

He didn't invent Math.....He invented Maths.

The old story about Percy Shaw the inventor, is that he was driving home one night when he saw his headlights reflecting off the eyes of a cat facing him in the middle of the road, which led to him inventing the "cats-eye reflector". If the cat had been facing the other way however, he'd have probably invented a pencil sharpener!
(...I just love that joke!!!)

All hail Thomas crapper for inventing the crapper legend

That bridge he shows when talking about steel bridges is in my town, is called The Iron Bridge (because it's made of cast iron and not steel) and is a world heritage site

The man who invented the World Wide Web internet gave it away for free , can you imagine anyone else doing it for free , even if he charged 1p per year per person he would of been the richest man in the world , and give it away for free , what a amazing man,

The copyright for the Caterpillar tracks was given to the British government for the use on tanks. After the war the government could not see the benefits of keeping the rights so sold them to an American company that became Caterpillar. This meant that we had to pay them for the use on the British tanks. 😡🤠

15:13 wasn’t just finger prints…we invented forensic science

Don’t forget the ATM. The world’s first ATM was in Enfield.

We in the UK also invented a lot more than this like the hovercraft, thermos flasks etc.

the world without us would be a VERY different place

I think by far the biggest omission from this gentleman's list is hydraulics, invented initially using water as the fluid by Sir William Armstrong. Is anything at all built today without the use of hydraulics?

If you really want to be blown away by Newton, when he started developing his version of Calculus (fluxional calculus) he was only 24 years old.

Fun fact:

Railways go back further than 1812. That was the first engine with two cylinders. The Middleton railway was actually built in 1758.

Catherine Warr has a pretty informative video on this topic if anyone is interested in that sort of thing

The invention of trains meant that passengers travelling west would arrive earlier than when they left, so the people at Greenwich invented standardised time & towns stopped setting their clocks by the local sundial.
