Love how in the ending, Bernard succesfully asks Bianca for marriage and the other mouse is like "I'm not even mad"

I don't have the time to watch right now, but I want to share a memory I had as a kid.

When this movie was out in theaters, I was excited to see a sequel to a movie I liked, and told the other kids in my afterschool daycare. They all refused to believe it was a sequel. They said this was the only Rescuers movie. They made fun of me for believing there were two Rescuers movies, and teased me about it until I changed daycares.

Kids, this is what life could be like before the internet to look things up.

I just love the scene with Joanna stealing McLeech's eggs while he thinks aloud. It just has the vibes of a scene you'd find the special features of a dvd, either a character study scene or one that got cut much to the disappointment of the animators.

3:40 What you call a “sitcom sequel” is called an episodic series.

Fun fact - Chip and Dale: Rescue Rangers began development as a show based on The Rescuers, but that concept was rejected since Down Under was already in the works.

I know it's common to call Jake a kangaroo rat, but he's not.  Kangaroo rats are A not rats, most closely related gophers, and B native to North America.  He's a hopping mouse which is an Australia-native relative of mice that have long feet, a hopping gait (hence the name), and tuft on the end of the tail.

That little nitpick aside, this was the first movie I remember going to the theater to see.  It was paired with Mickey's Prince and the Pauper with a ten minute intermission between them.  The intermission was a dial with a Mickey Mouse counting down the minutes and each minute had a different melody from various Disney movies.  I've seen the transition to the intermission posted on Youtube, but sadly the intermission itself might be lost media.

At 16:42 all I could think was “Eat your heart out How To Train Your Dragon!” so I burst out laughing hearing it echoed back seconds later 😂

This was the first time my little ears heard a didgeridoo, and it felt so strange because I didn't know if it was an animal or an instrument.

I think everyone needs a Cody in their lives. Just an adorable, energetic, animal-loving bean to brighten their day.

Marahute is likely supposed to be an extinct giant eagle, with the death of her mate and the importance of her eggs implying she is an endling the last of her kind. Given the time period this movie was made she was likely based off the Haast's Giant Eagle from New Zealand that was so big and powerful (though not as big as Marahute of course) that they hunted giant moas and likely adult humans as well.

I think about "I didn't make it all the way through third grade for nothing!" at least a couple of times a year.  As a child I thought it was so clever and it never ceases to make me chuckle even now! 😂

27:38 Kathy Zelenzky is such a cool animator. She animated Tzekel-kan in Road to El Dorado, and really brings the menace to that character - details like how she animates his smile showing his gums a lot in a way that just feels deeply unsettling.

Gosh I miss Disney and DreamWorks 2D animation.

I used to envy that kid, that was able to fly on the back on a huge eagle

Without watching the video, a sequel is one that:

1.  Bring a new perspective or development to a preestablished story…that doesn’t change it
2.  Builds upon the foundation to tell a new message
3.  Remembers its characters and develops them accordingly
4.  Does not rehash a functionally the same problem as the first

If you are going to tell a story in an established universe, you gotta abide by that canon…or just make a new story.  But never both.

14:32 while yes this is a good point, it is a bit funny that you used a movie to prove a point about letting kids explored unsupervised that shows said kid getting abducted which is probably a very good reason why that kid shouldn’t have been left alone

Bernard's subplot of trying to propose to Bianca is eerily similar to Kristoff's subplot of trying to propose to Anna in Frozen 2. Except here it's much less irritating. Actually I think Bernard does MORE here than Kristoff did in Frozen 2, despite probably having less screentime than Kristoff.

We’re doing a sequel Back by popular demand, kermit

Fun fact: George C. Scott actually refused to sing for McLeach, saying that he couldn't see the character "acting so silly". So the studio brought in the legendary Jim Cummings to mimic Scott's voice to sing the lines. They enlisted Jim Cummings help once again for Jeremy Irons, when his voice broke singing "Be Prepared". If you listen close enough, you can hear where their voices switch about half way through the song 🦻

I never realized how much multiplane scenes are in this movie! It looks super nice!

I'm glad I found your channel, your videos are super good and fun to watch. I love how deep you get into the subject and then tie it back into the movie discussed. There's a lot of care here and I hope you get many more subscribers!

Grew up with this on VHS, fun fact: I once woke up my father in a panic after I played this movie on my VCR without assistance (I was 5 years old) early in the morning. The movie starts out quiet initially but then the bombastic opening bursts in with the trumpets blaring and I kid you not this man runs into my room with the most terrified expression and to this day I still don't know what garnered such an intense reaction. Did he think I was being swept away to the Australian outback just like Cody or was it really that loud?
