The engine is out – and I'll probably never have this much space in the engine compartment again. So: If not now, when? 😅

⚙️ My 1978 Volvo Penta MD21A, a 4-cylinder diesel with 75 hp, is getting a complete overhaul, which I'm doing myself, and is being converted from Type A to Type B. I'm being supported in this rather large project by my sailing dad. He knows this engine type inside and out and is sharing his knowledge with me. Together we're working on the heart of the Courage so that I can finally set sail again in 2027 ❤️

But before we get to the engine itself, its future home needs attention.

I've cleaned and painted the bilge, added new insulation to the engine compartment – ​​and taken care of the cooling water, bilge, and fuel systems. New hoses, a new seawater filter, a new fuel filler neck, and a Separ filter are being installed. The engine compartment will also be better ventilated.

Thus, the dark engine room is gradually being transformed into a bright, clean, and optimal space for my newly overhauled engine.
