Our 45-year-old sailboat was intercepted by the German military.

While sailing from Fehmarnsund towards Kiel during our winter journey from the Arctic to Africa, we accidentally entered an area that had been closed to traffic for a military shooting exercise.

The problem?

We didn’t know the area was closed. There was no warnings. No one seemed to hear our radio. And by the time we realised what was happening, we were already inside the exercise area.

Then we spotted a military vessel heading straight towards us.

What happened next was one of the most frightening and surreal moments of our entire journey.

Hi, we're Stina, Nico and our four-legged captain Elvis. We’re sailing our 45-year-old Swedish classic yacht from the Arctic to Africa, figuring things out as we go. Through freezing temperatures, storms, mechanical problems, remote places and everything else the ocean decides to throw at us.

If you enjoy sailing adventures, winter sailing, offshore cruising and following a slightly questionable 45-year-old sailboat on an unnecessarily ambitious journey, consider subscribing.

What would you have done in our situation?

Have you ever accidentally sailed into somewhere you definitely weren’t supposed to be?

Stay warm out there.
