When L was leading the task force, he lost. When Light was leading the task force, he lost. The task force are the biggest bums in the story.

Bro no cap I figured out who Kira was in the first episode

I mean L knew he was Kira right from the start. The real tricky part was getting the proof so he could be convicted in a court of law.

When Ryuk first shows up, Light has a throwaway line about how he noticed the Death Note has a mysterious power that urges someone to try it at least once. Y'know what never happens when all of the Task Force touch the note and keep it at their office? People getting urges to go try the note out. This was never a power of the Note at all, it was just Light not wanting to admit to himself that he was super eager to use the murder-people book. Pushing responsibility for it off of himself in little ways to protect his own view of himself as above reproach. He was always a psychopath, just one raised by a man of strong moral fiber. Once he got his hands on that kind of power, that alone was no longer enough to keep that side of him in check.

I'm thinking back on that scene with the bully again, and it's crazy how Light never thinks to stand up for the victim. He just considers killing the bully, realizes he can't do it, and then lets the matter go. Light is physically very tough, he's a straight A student, very well-respective at the school so he could 100% protect this kid if he wanted to with little risk to himself. Light is obviously right that there are people out there that the world would be better off without, but his convictions were never about protecting the victims, not even back then.

Saying L is a side character is probably the craziest part of this vid lmao

L : If I die in the next two days then Light is Kira... Lol

Honestly considering how irl cops bungle real life serial killer cases the taskforce being lame and bad is the most realistic part of this series

L himself could have caught Kira much earlier, but then we wouldn't have the story. L sets up the Lind L Tailor broadcast. He taunts Kira, Kira kills him. Then the broadcast abruptly stops, right? Wrong. L gloats about how he narrowed down Kira to the Kanto region. Why would any detective tell the criminal what evidence he has collected so far, that too on a public broadcast?

If he had instead just kept his mouth shut, Kira would not know that L has narrowed down Kira to the Kanto region, at least for a while. He would continue the killings, perhaps more carelessly, because he thinks L is already dead.

But instead, since Kira knows what L has learned, he could easily move to another region and continue killing from there, while the police continue searching for Kira in the Kanto region.

I dunno, I think the series explains it quite well right from the start. Light is a studious worker, smart, his dad is a big shot cop, he's attractive and athletic, in Japan that all combined makes him basically untouchable. His privilege is a shield that lets him keep being evil, whereas if, as L suggests, he had come into the journal and become Kira himself, he probably would have covered his tracks better but he would have crumbled under scrutiny because people would WANT him to be Kira.

That is why Light losing his memories was the big turning point. L suspected Light from the start, but he couldn't evidently prove it due to the supernatural factors Light possesses.

Everyone commenting about how "Light is stupid all he had to do was just be a little more careful and no one would have any idea who did it". The whole point of death note is that he WANTED to be known. He wanted to be a God. He was careless bc he wanted people to know someone was doing this. He wanted to be a god, strike fear into everyone, and be known. He just didn't wanna face the consequences of his actions. That's why he's always riding the borderline of being caught, he wanted to be as known as possible without facing consequences

It's because it's a fight for ego and insecurity.

It's the only time L and light feels something

The fact a man able to kill anyone, anywhere, with a notebook got caught at ALL is just laughable. You have a way to kill without anyone able to find out, yet you still got caught. It was ego. Such wasted potential.

If Light got the eyes, following the events in Death Note, he would have never lost like he did. He would have lived longer with half his life span, than he did with is full life. Light overthought every interaction, forgetting he and L were both, simply, human.

A WAY TO KILL WITHOUT ANYONE KNOWING AND HE STILL LOSES. Light was a clown fuelled by ego. The writers put him in a box. I love Death Note.

Lets be real here. Dude got a book that can off any person in any place of the world without leaving any track and still became prime suspect within a week.
I dont even think he was that smart to begin with.

Knowing that Light accessed the police files to choose which criminal to kill, it would have been easy to trick him. For instance, you create false files with the name of terminally ill people who would volunteer to die earlier, and you ensure that these files are only accessible to Light Yagami. If all the guys die the same day from a heart attack, you have your proof.

The death of the Pembers really made me hate Light, he mocked the man's wife as she went to commit suicide, actively laughing at her. He is a monster

On the topic of the memory erasure plan it isn't simply that musa wont cpnfess if she gets her memories erased. She wasnt going to regardless, she literally tried to bite her tongue out. Light was just gonna leave her there until they released her until Rem threatened him. The memory loss plan was to push the narrative that kira was an entity that possesed people. That would make them not responsible for their actions since they were being controlled. The second part of the plan was to set up misa to be number 1 suspect again and put pressure on Rem to kill L so that Misa doesnt get caught and get rid of Rem who caused more problems than benefits.

Honestly, the biggest "He definitely should've been caught here" moment was when he kept bugging Naomi even after she said she wanted to walk alone. His persistence was extremely suspicious. And then that one officer just conveniently put up his umbrella and blocked his view of Light right at the last second.

@7:30 For why Rem killed L, the moment he realized how to catch Misa, her life expectancy dropped. Rem was in love with Misa so the only way to get it to raise again was to give Misa Rem’s years of life.
