I just want to clarify, because I'm sure some people would bring this up:

But there's absolutely no world where Dexter is independently catching Light. For this video, I intentionally added the ongoing Kira investigation and the underlying presence of L to give him at least somewhat of a chance. It's really just plot convenience, but I believe it makes the video a bit more interesting / plausible.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Hell no.

Uh dexter would be caught by L before he catches light

I don't believe Dexter has a remote chance, mainly because L still exists in the story.

The second Dexter does something that changes Kira's habits, L is going to take notice that change wasn't caused by him.

Also with Light being L's favorite suspect, there is hardly a chance Dexter gets the opportunity to proper abduct him.

There is things you overlooked:

Dexter would actually have a kinda immunity to the Death Note. All his official credentials list him as Dexter Morgan, but his actual name is Dexter Moser. That might be enough to trip up the Death Note, as the book does not have a rule clarifying about legal, or this case illegal, name changes. So Light could get his name on Dexter's name based on official materials, write it down while literally looking at Dexter, and it does nothing.

On the other hand, Dexter has a lot of issues.

1) His Dark Passenger. During the time period Death Note takes place, either starting in 2003 or 2005, Dexter needs to kill people to stave off his Dark Passenger, usually about once a month. However, he has a lot harder time doing this in Japan he has less access to police information than he is used to, he doesn't know the area or the language, and many of his potential targets will be killed by Light before Dexter can get his hands on them. Without that, Dexter starts acting like a drug addict with withdrawal symptoms, which is going to impact his critical thinking and make him seem suspect. After his series, he learns to go without killing for a decade, but he doesn't get that skill until at least 2013.

2) M99: Dexter gets his supply in Miami through his fake identity of "Peter Bateman M.D." That identity is not going to be worth anything in Japan, so he has no access to his favored sedative, and as a foreigner who doesn't even speak Japanese will struggle to find an alternative supply.

3) L. Trying to find out who Kira is while L is investigating things will be very difficult. Sure, L is pretty confident on his student theory, but he is distrustful, and if he figures out that a bunch of serial killers were vanishing in Miami right up until Dexter left for Japan, and by this scenario Dexter was also in the right district to see the Lind L. Taylor broadcast might make L look into Dexter as a possible Kira. Even if L doesn't suspect Dexter, if his surveillance catches Dexter going into Light's home, trailing Light, or even noticing Kira acting differently because of Dexter's actions is all bad news for Dexter as it might imply that Dexter is playing some long con to frame Light as Kira.

Well realistically Light couldn't ust the death note to kill Dexter as although he goes by Dexter Morgan and his IDs also say Dexter Morgan. His real name is Dexter Moser

Disagree for 2 reasons.

1st: Based on what we see of Dexter in his own show, it's fairly likely he'd try to open the drawer normally first, so the book is burnt.

2nd: And this is far more important. Its likely Dexter's investigation would actually align with the time Misa enters Lights life. Because she's basically following and stalking Light herself, it's possible she may spot Dexter entering his house.

Dexter wouldn’t even want to catch Kira 😭

To your point of Dexter losing his memories of the notebook should he relinquish ownership:

The Death Note rules state that if you relinquish ownership of the notebook without writing any names down in it, you do not lose your memories of Shinigami or the notebook; so there wouldn't be any supernatural consequences of the kind you mentioned

When Dexter has Light in the prepared room, L just fucking walks in and arrests the both of them.

You missed the detail about the cameras L put on the yagami household

10% larp, 40% writers preference, 100% here for it

Buddy, they’re literally on the same team.

"Hello Dexter Morgan" 38 seconds later, 2 seconds before the 40 "And goodbye Dexter Moser"

This is the peak of bro

To get any job in the police force you have to get your fingerprints taken. All light needs is a fingerprint and he can find Dexters name and face in his father’s database.

Video Idea 💡:

Could Hank Schrader Catch Dexter Morgan

There's something worth mentioning in that the novel's Dexter is a different beast than the show's, and the novel Dexter in the Dark reveals that the Dark Passenger is a literal supernatural entity not entirely dissimilar to Ryuk tied to the demon Molach. Dexter even confronts a man who is housing an avatar of Molach: this thing is an element that really should be appreciated when talking about the generic 'Dexter' as something that could and should influence the 'power scaling' of Dexter against other investigators. He's got a devil on his shoulder, and it sometimes actually is feeding him answers.

EVEN If Dexter could catch light , he aint doing shi to him because they do the same thing

The Death Battle idea I wish was made.
