What’s it like to spend 24 hours with one of America’s busiest fire companies?
I joined Denver Fire Department Truck 4 for an entire 24-hour shift at Firehouse 4 in the heart of downtown Denver, Colorado.
Truck 4 protects an incredibly busy part of the city, including high-rise buildings, the LoDo entertainment district, Coors Field, residential neighborhoods and some of Denver’s most recognizable landmarks. When night falls, downtown fills with people—and Truck 4 stays ready for whatever happens next.
At the time of this ride-along, Truck 4 had earned a reputation as one of the busiest ladder companies in the country. In Firehouse Magazine’s 2021 National Run Survey, Truck 4 ranked #1 among participating ladder companies, responding to 7,540 incidents that year.
Come along for the shift as we experience life inside a busy downtown firehouse, ride through the streets of Denver and follow the crew as they respond to calls throughout their first-due area.
This isn’t a staged demonstration or apparatus tour. It’s an unscripted look at what happens during 24 hours with the firefighters of Denver Truck 4.
