Hi Phil, Kay from Canada here!  When we left Halesowen in 1977 and moved to Kidderminster, my Dad was working at a big company called Stein Atkinson Stordy in Wombourne (my Black Country parents always called it  WOMBUN).  I remember it was quite 'posh' but like most places I remember from my growing up, it seems to have changed, and not for the better.. I remember the curry houses, but not in Wombourne and the Turkish barbers seems like it started a long time after we left England in 1988.

My parents never really liked Kidderminster and always felt more at home with the real souls of the Black Country.  Keep up the good memories Phil.  I love going back in time with you.

Know it well. Haven't been there for over a decade, but it looks pretty much like the last time I saw it.

Another great video. I’ve been to Wombourne many times, I even worked there in the late 80s at a joinery that is now a housing estate. This is the first time I’ve ever noticed Walkers Way!

Thanks for another great video, Phil. In St Benedict's churchyard, the war memorial has the name of Den Brotheridge, from Dudley, who married a local woman there. He was in the glider that landed right next to Pegasus Bridge on D-Day, and was the first Allied soldier to be mortally wounded in the action. He died about two hours after being shot while crossing the bridge.

I used to live in Wombourne until 2013.

Was born in Wombourn lived there till I joined the army at 17.  Been back a few times as family still living there but did enjoy the walk with you, reminder of childhood

I have fond memories of 'Wum-bun' - my cousins lived there, and it used to feel like being in the countryside to visit. I passed through last year - the village centre still looks roughly as I remember it, and the outlying lanes and housing areas still look fairly attractive. But, like everywhere, farms are being sold off for housing............

Excellent vlog as always Phil 😊

Ooh has Phil been to Pattingham? I love-it there. It is such a cosy village.

Im from west bromwich, warstone drive, and moved to wombourne 4 years ago, feels like you following me

Sorry to correct you Phil but it was the Bush in Swindon that suffered the structural damage from the vehicle crash. Great video anyway.

Hi phi I was just 10 yes old
When my family mom dad and brother left wombourne .
We lived in a place called
Melton Mowbray Leicestershire .
Of course I'm not there now .I'm in Coventry .I've been back twice to wombourne .visited the cliffs my old school and Sreets where I lived in Bull lane .Thank you for covering this .it ment so much to me .of course I'm getting on now .it's been 62 yrs .But I'll never forget this place .Some happy memories The New inn used to be the place where we sat in the gardens with pop and crisps .same with the Vine pub ..once again thank you 👍

"Womburn" is how I say it. I would go thru there to get to Bobbington Airport market and years after that I would go down the rabbit run to the huge boot sale that was close to Brignorth.

One of the few places that is still (mostly) recognisable from the days of my youth.  Cheers Phil; this makes for a refreshing change from the usual dispiriting, and parlous state of many places that I once knew.  👍

They looked a friendly bunch Phil. 😂

You didn’t mention the Maypole on windmill hill or the church originating from AD 910 and thought to have started after the famous battle at Tettenhall with the Danes - battlefield hill and lane in Wombourne The Red Lion is still open and reportedly has a ghost

Hi Phi, i've been in the Old Bush, doing the Black Country Ale Trail.

I will have to look into reviewing those pubs for my channel.

Wombourne looks like a beautiful place and shock horror no vape shop, nail bar or Bob shop in sight!  Just a turkish barber. Shame a few locals seemed not happy.
