I would love to see videos about how you create your backgrounds!

This is literally one of the BEST ART JOURNALS that I have EVER, EVER, EVER, seen. OMG what a joy. Thanks for sharing this.

This is a great overview of the possibilities and variety of fun you can have with art journaling.  I grew up like many people thinking that because I couldn’t draw things out of my mind I was not an “artist”.  I was very creative with fiber and fabrics but stayed away from paints, etc.  Then in my later years I was introduced to art journaling and it has opened a whole new world of creativity and enjoyment! And thanks to the wonderful YouTube artists who share so generously I have learned so much and am amazed at what I can do and how much joy it gives me.  And at age 81 I can say for sure “it is never too late”!
One note of advice for those just starting: don’t start with mixed media journals that have the metal spirals in them like I did when I didn’t know any better.  I found them very frustrating when doing an open two page spread.

I started bullet journaling years ago. This past Christmas I decided to start art journaling. I bought some stickers and just worked them into my writing journal. I then started collecting old books and magazine to cut pictures out of. I also started collecting trade journals from my workplace and other unloved paper destined for the trash. I now have made three junk journals I bound and decorated on my own. I gave two as gifts already. I am now experimenting with drawing using a glass dip pen and bottled inks. I have really taken to this craft, it has absolutely enriched my life and brought me a lot of joy. I love that my creations can so easily become gifts (i love to randomly give little gifts, but i will probably forget your birthday).

I would love to see a video on backgrounds. Your work is amazing!! #goals

This is so helpful! Your examples are not only beautiful but really helps to clarify what exactly art journaling is. I have been wanting to try it but had no idea what it really was.

Thank you for putting all these choices into one clear discussion!

Thanks for the discovery of Dan Eldon! Had never heard of him. <3

Love theses! Thank you for showing us. I’m very new to all this and I am so excited to keep growing in it

Oh my gosh Meg I just found you and you have so inspired me!  I am an artist, with a studio, but the studio is for everyone else...it's a business where I conduct paint nights, art parties and kids classes.  I do everything for my studio for the benefit of others, which I love, but journaling is something that has been tugging at my soul for YEARS.  I have so many empty, sad journals just hoping to be used to create daily art.  This has really got me in the mood to start.  I need to do this.  Going to watch all your videos.  LOVE.

Your books are beautiful! I would love to see more about process of creating the books that combine writing with art journaling.

Definitely a broad term “art journaling.” So many ways to create under that umbrella which makes it amazing! I love love mixed media collage the most!

Your journals are so beautiful. I also love the work of Dan Eldon. Thank you for the tutorial and inspiration ❤❤

Love the tiny watercolor journal

Thanks for sharing. Your art & creativity is very inspiring but also intimidating. Comparison and the expectation of perfection is a spirit killer and makes for lack of creativity! I think most artist and creative people do this and we need to get over it and be ourselves!

This was a great introduction. 😊

I'm usually not a fan of ring bound sketchbooks or journals but for collage they work better with the growing thickness of the journal with all the stuff one puts in there.

I also found that making sketchbooks and journals myself is not that hard and, at least when it comes to materials, it's cheaper. Especially when you want to go with good watercolor paper. Cotton paper sketchbooks are so expensive and binding them myself let's me buy more paper for the same price. The cardboard at the end of a pad is great for the covers.

I follow Natasa from Treasure Books. She has so many great and simple ways to bind a book. You don't need much and certainly no special products. However, I suggest investing in some glue that's not water based because it won't warp your paper when you glue stuff down.

Gorgeous work and a beautiful , inspiring. variety of journalling ideas! Thnk u!❤❤

Thanks for sharing about Dan Eldon. I'm South African and have never heard of him before, so I'll check his books out.

Dankeschön für die tolle Inspiration und für die Erwähnung Dan Eldon. Ich kannte ihn bis heute nicht und musste gerade erstmal einiges über ihn lesen. Danke dafür

Art librarian here. LOVE that Dan Eldon book. I’ve seen a lot of art books over the years and that one still sticks out to me.
