Wow, essentially I just heard him say. I'm not a hack writer, but my audience is too stupid to follow a complex narrative. Trust me, I could write a good story if I wanted to. I even drew attention to this by naming my action adventure lady Croft, as in Lara. No way would I accidentally name a character something so recycled. Only a foolish hack would carelessly reveal something like that.

Blaming his actress by saying she couldn't deliver the lines and that's why scenes had to be rewritten was the nail in the coffin for me. Was there an audition process for this? Did nobody rehearse the dialogue before the cameras started rolling? Was there even such a thing as pre-production on this project? As much as you want to be taken seriously as a professional artist, publicly shifting the blame onto one of your actors for problems that should've been addressed long before filming began just comes across as unprofessional and rude, especially when you're the person in charge of the story and creative decisions. A bad filmmaker is one thing, but an unprofessional one is an entirely different level of self-arrogance. No wonder Hollywood operates the way it does. Here's a guy who spent years telling everyone how modern movies suck because they don't align with his agenda, only to make his own project and then blame an actress when things don't work out. If the dialogue had to be rewritten because the actress couldn't deliver it properly, then I'd hate to hear what the original dialogue was supposed to be like. I'd honestly be surprised if anyone still wants to help Drinker fund his next project after hearing that.

Drinker is still stuck in the old action movies era from the 80s. Like, if he is such a good movie maker, why don't he make a drama or a slice of life comedy? He mostly consumes and reviews action blockbusters and franchises, but he kinda forgets that movie is a much more diverse medium. Does he actually care about the movies as art, or merely as the entertainment?

I try not to judge films made by critics any differently then I would films made by anyone else, but when your persona as a critic is to have insanely high standards and nitpick every frame of other people’s work, you’re inviting the harshest criticism imaginable.

I watched it. What stood out to me is how…incomplete it feels. It feels like a scene taken from a movie, not a ‘short film’.

Blaming the actors, blaming the fact that people haven’t read the books to better understand the references, blaming the budget, and blaming the fact that what was in his head didn’t turn out the way he wanted, always on the basis of problems supposedly caused by other people, not by him (‘I was on set for two days’). But isn’t that basically the same thing he criticizes directors, studios, and screenwriters for every single time? They’re human too, and they’ve dealt with the same kinds of problems.
Films or tv series with massive budgets face millions of these problems and obstacles during production. It’s probably twenty thousand times harder than making something crowdfunded. If a great movie comes out of that process, it’s almost a miracle. Even getting a merely good one is a miracle. In many cases, it’s simply a matter of luck and having the right talented people in the right places.
I hope that, sooner or later, drinker and the rest of the crowd will realize that what they’ve built over all these years has been a lie, and that they’ll start behaving more respectfully before slandering people they don’t even know.
