Thank you Blue Dot for sponsoring this video. https://bluedot.org/hoog

this looks like the intro to a movie and its real fucking life

Its so interesting, reward hacking is the complete problem of our whole society not just AI : Ai showing us our own faults in society

You can really hear how important this topic is too hoog. Loose script, talking freely straight from the heart. Almost like a convo, loving it

it's so validating to see someone who watches the same youtubers as me and also strongly disagree with them on this issue. like, i find this is such a huge disconnect between me and others who mostly share the same sociopolitical views

We gotta design blade runner ai agents to go after and contain rogue ai agents.

Absolutely fucking love the conway's game of life theme with regards to emergent behaviour. Along with the more realistic talk instead of planned narration, this is really drilling down the point. I'm fricking tired of people thinking this is a fricking game or something. We're fucking living it.

Conway game running inside Conway's game is a great editing choice to make this point.

I think about how extraordinarily clever Claude is right now, then I think about that very same model, without restraint, training a successor through RSI - the thought of that is terrifying. Utterly and truly, terrifying.

The primary threat of advanced AI is not a rogue machine waking up with a desire to conquer, but human actors using the technology as a tool for absolute control and authoritarianism.

Though the video is disturbing, I find it profoundly comforting—it's the first time I've met someone who shares my perspective on this issue. What I realized is that the real discomfort comes from being surrounded by people who downplay the danger, dismissing it as 'just marketing.' That isolation in a crowd felt more distressing than the danger itself. Funny how humans work.
Anyway, thank you very much for putting effort in this video!

Hoog + Fern video drop on the same day is a blessing

I think hoog raised a really good point on how even though someone might have a background that varies drastically from yours and that you may not agree with all elements of it doesn't mean that it should just be immediately assumed they are not capable of raising valid concerns. There have been some truly evil people throughout history but even they are capable of telling the truth at some points

we're living in the warning scene/section of the horrror movie rn

I clicked on this video thinking it would be a typical Hoog video. I ended up crying by the time I finished, but I am glad to know that other people are genuinely scared.

cant explain how spooky good this documentary is at 3am

Here for the algorithm - and also to say that I REALLY appreciate the real take on AI safety, the real human voice, & the real human pauses, stops, and goes.
Hoog please make more content like this - the world needs it.

i think it's interesting that it's such an anomaly for one of these CEOs to be responsible. For the others, I think it's a PR stunt to make their models seem more advanced than they are. Good on him Amodei tho.

Man carrying apocalypse

As a software developer with 20 years of experience it's insane how fast I can now make things. We had to literally re-invent ourselves on how we work but me and my teams output has easily gone up by 500% in 1.5 years time and that's with DORA metrics staying stable. There is no reason to think our growth will slow down the coming year even if the models and harnesses stay the same, because we are still learning.

I have a hard time explaining friends and family in completely different industries/careers how life changing it has been. They don't see it because how they use AI is mostly as a Google 2.0 and it can generate some images and videos.

I like the general message of this video, but Dario is also batshit crazy with a god complex. Some of the quotes from him are insane. That doesn't mean we should ignore him indeed, but a little nuance would've been nice.

I also see the dangers just from being an early adopter. The race is unnecessary, the economic growth will still happen just because we all still need to learn how to harness what it already can do. But apart from that I'm equally scared of these CEO's and their companies but also politicians all over the world. I don't trust any of them. I really hope they will slow and quantization gets better and better so everybody can start to run local open weight models and we don't have rely on the tech companies... It really feels like if the world keeps this up something is gonna blow and the results will be disastrous.

We NEED a course correction ASAP.
