Alinsky was a product of his times operating in the 50s and 60s. The entire political and social structure was so different than today's. Things we take for granted were not in Alinsky's days. Normal procedure is also very different

I'm a year late, but almost every criticism I've heard is either missing his obvious intentions behind a quote or is a straight up compliment. I'd have plenty of my own issues with him but mostly ideological or rhetorical. Otherwise he was so transparent that for any damaging criticism to land well would be difficult

Our Industrial Areas Foundation organization, in Boston, functioning on Alinsky’s modus operandi does accomplish worthwhile goals, eg more tax money for affordable housing, criminal justice reforms, and holding candidate nights where candidates are pushed to take a stand and at times,therefore, don’t show up, thus influencing election outcomes. We have a much more progressive DA as a result. These “deliverables” don’t get at the root problem ie capitalism/racism/wealth extremes. But they do make a difference in many people’s lives.

Refreshing content. Thank you from OZ. A bad paste of Alinsky’s ideas were/are used to train Australian paid union organisers/ leaders for many years. The result being: a focus on electoral 3rd party political organising; abandonment of a focus on workplace organising; equating mobilisation in activity as “empowerment”; undermining R&F decision making networks.
Result: has assisted Australian unions decline and strengthened anti-materialist politics.
IMHO: Alinsky is dangerous for a politics thats emphasis is on self emancipation targeted at workers.

I found this extremely ironic considering Alinsky at least gave tangible and VERY specific actions in order to achieve power.
Which then leads me to 37:30.
Our movt is not entitled to support just because of supposed shared ideology. Ppl want material change in their lives so if the leftist candidate had not spent enough time in the community where their face can be linked to the material changes the Unite union won, then of course Unite doesn't need to endorse their candidacy*.

Eg I link Cori Bush's primary win directly to the fact her face in the community has been linked with BLM for years so that's why the constituents were willing to take a risk to leave the familiar black political dynasty with which they were already familiar for a community on-the-ground organizer who has been part of their struggle.

You can contrast this in NC during the primary where my hero Senator Nina Turner wasn't able to shift AA support for Bernie since she's hardly been in the community when compared to Clyburn who was literally able to shape the course of history single-handedly.

*Btw I say that knowing some of these unions have become corrupted by their power overtime.

Having been a paid Alinsky organizer long ago, I believe these guys are sincere but not accurate. They go by books and interviews, but dont seem to have any idea what he and his organizers actually did

Maybe if you let yourself speak a little slower, you're thought could keep up with your tongue, and you wouldn't be incesssantly tripping over yourself with "uh, uh, you know, uh, you know, and, you know".  It's good to be excited about information you have to deliver, but it's also well to consider your words so they can come out more coherently.
