Utterly beautiful poignant song delivered by probably the  most underrated singer of recent times.

You're a good man, the world needs more empathy.

From an interview in the Dailymail on 1 November 2023.

"This Morning viewers became emotional as they watched James Blunt perform his touching new song about pregnancy loss - the couple sadly lost their baby daughter.
The singer-songwriter, 49, and his wife Sophie, 40, married in 2014, and are parents to two sons - whose names have not been revealed.
James went on to write The Girl That Never Was after he and wife Sofia suffered their tragic loss.
James spoke openly about his personal life with hosts Josie Gibson and Rylan Clark during Wednesday's show.
Speaking about a song he wrote on family life, he said: 'I write songs about the people I need to look after. I'm married to an amazing person and we have aspirations to start a family, some of those aspirations we have achieved and others we haven't.
'There's battles with loss we struggle with. I deal with it by writing songs about it. One of those songs is called The Girl That Never Was."

Yep it is about himself and his wife he revealed it in an interview.

One of the quotes that helps me accept loss & trauma is ”Some things cannot be fixed, only carried.”
Thank you for your reaction.

This song strikes deep in my heart because I had 2 sons that never was the first one I was 3 months along when I lost him, the second one I was 9 months along. It was heart breaking for me and still is. I am 72 and I lost the last one in 1982, my heart still aches for them both.

My first son slipped away while I read him his first and only story " I'll love you forever, I'll love you always " we had been told he wouldn't make it. I got to read him a story and tell him we loved him and he was gone . This song kicks me in the heart not ashamed to say I cry like a baby every time I hear it. To any of you that have lost a child I'm sorry .. you aren't alone . His name was Owen he was born and left Sept 15 2010  he was my son and he had parents that love him. His mom left our younger son and I after fighting a long fight with kidney failure Aug 30 2018 . I carry their memory now .

James did post that he doesn't share things from his private life, but sometimes it comes out in a song. This is that song ❤

Thankfully  my wife understands  this! Love you Holly will meet you soon xxxxx

Yes this happened to him and his wife

James is so unique!
I don't get why he is underated.
Super talented , super song writer, unique voice.

Why James, why ? You keep doing this to our souls. Been there, seen it, felt it. What a masterpiece of storytelling- with poetry, music & emotions.
You surely have your heart in the right place !!

Losing a baby is indescribable.  I lost 2. I now have the most amazing beautiful daughter, but you never forget 😢❤

It is definitely his therapy and ours. He is so incredibly skilled at writing. Another note, I was shocked to find out about his military background and how he told a superior officer to fuck off when the officer tried to get him to fire upon the enemy who was trying to surrender.

James blunt is so underrated he is my favorite artist. He can tell a story no else. To put your personal life in your music and be that vulnerable is incredible. What a beautiful song.

Proud father of 9yr old boy / girl twins .  And 30 minutes after they were delivered we were in the recovery room and the nursing staff rushed in and took my daughter because she stopped breathing. MAN talked about going from the highest high to the instant fears. We spent 5 days in the hospital while my Wife was recovering and I would go back and forth to the  NICU to deliver “ liquid gold “ for my daughter while she was plugged up to multiple machines so she could feed. Was nerve racking. Our friend who was head of the L&D department was able 2 extend us 2 days. I remember the morning we were finally being forced to leave and I walked back to the NICU one last time knowing we had to go home and the nurse greeted me withe the biggest smile ever. My daughter made a dramatic shift for the better and I was able to hold her and feed her outside the little chamber she was in. I broke down in tears of joy and went back to update my Wife. We eventually brought her home that night. Was the craziest week ever. But 9 yrs later wouldn’t change it for anything. I have the greatest kids ever and am truly blessed! 💯🙏🏼😍

James Blunt is hands down my favourite solo artist. He doesn’t make as many records as many of his contemporaries, because he puts so much into those he does make. As an ex-soldier he’s experienced enough at an early age to be able to feel and express the deep stuff. My reaction on first hearing this was very similar to yours, it took me a few moments to realise what the song was about, then I saw those little shoes and wound it back to start again and it cut me in pieces. I am blessed with a little daughter who looks just like the little blondie running through those fields and it made me count my lucky stars. She almost had a brother but my wife miscarried and we never dared to try again. Your reaction was real and heartfelt. From over here in England I’m reaching out to wish you the best mate, and let’s keep marching through whatever life throws at us.
