I do remember, when my mother was dying, I was crossing the bridge on my way to visit her--a glorious sunny day, water sparkling, and for one brief moment I thought I wish you would die so I don't have to do this anymore. In that instant I KNEW I didn't think that, I just wanted the pain to go away, the sorrow in my life to go away...I couldn't imagine that I could even think those words!

HIs wife had a miscarriage. They lost a baby girl in the 3rd trimester. So they had picked a name, built the nursery, and then lost her. They have two healthy boys now, but obviously losing a pregnancy isn't something you forget no matter the years that have passed.

We lost two in a row. The first was forced by the doctors because it was ectopic. After a brief resting time, we tried again. Unfortunately, my other half lost the second in the toilet of A&E whilst waiting for treatment. Thankfully, we have a wonderful 10-year-old boy now. The first two miscarriages still haunts me. I can only watch this music video now and again as it brings me to tears.

Thanks for picking up on the line "I'll never say I told you so / But sad I've thought the words", it's up there with "Thank God it's them instead of you" in terms of painful honesty. The other thing nobody seems to mention - maybe it's too obvious? - is the switch in the last verse from "she" to "you", that one small change widening the focus from sharing his wife's grief to sharing his own.

The video is about miscarriage they lost their first child a girl (that never was) and later went on to have 2 boys.

My father blamed my mother for my disability which ofc it wasnt. I never found out that fact until after he passed but it explains why we were not close. I am so sorry that I am sure my mother carried that guilt with her all her life. It makes me angry that a person could do that to another they are supposed to love.

This was definitely a real thing. I heard it somewhere that it took him 10 years after it happened before he could write this song. I don't know if this was his wife though. Monsters was a real thing and so is most of his music. You're amazing to take this on. God Bless.

Not to see u suffer but to see ur genuine human reaction, you can tell alit about a person by how they react i am new to your channel and I list mine and my husbands girl that never was and unfortunately we could never have children now I'm 54 and it still hurts it's like an ache i can not explain ❤❤

I believe it's not his wife in the video but it was a song about the loss of his and his wifes little girl by miscarriage. I saw an interview where he spoke about waiting awhile before writing the song and having to go home to discuss it with his wife.😢
They were able to have two little boys but never another girl. It's a beautiful painful song that encompass the pain so many go through.

I had 6 rainbow babies throughout my life and 4 live children. Most between 12 and 20 weeks. This song epitomises the pain and grief we felt every time this happened, our issue was my blood taking aspirin helped once the Drs figured it out.

42 years and 2 days later, the pain has never subsided. Inward facing grace was not a feeling I could withstand. Crib death happens and no one is to blame, but that doesn't change the 'what if?'.
