James Blunt, you magnificent bastard!

This is a great example of how something so painful can be so incredibly beautiful. Stunning piece of art.

My condolences to anyone in the comments that lost a dad

@davebilson 13 days ago

This song hits hard, especially if you have already lost your father. My father died in 1990, and I was asked, when he was dying in hospital, if I wanted to see him before he died. I was in the Armed Forces serving in Cyprus at the time. I was flown back to the UK on compassionate grounds and was fortunate enough to hold his hand as he died. I will always be grateful to the British Army for allowing me to say goodbye.

At the end of filming James' dad asked why everyone was crying, saying "I'm not dead yet!" Obviously James inherited his sense of humour from his dad. Unbelievably, James is one of the funniest people you would ever meet. He is generous enough to expose his soul and emotions for our benefit. As a result of this song, a donor was found so his dad recovered.

When my dad was dying from cancer he started seeing shadows in the dark. Even when it wasn’t dark. I lay with him in bed and sang to him and held him telling him there was nothing there, but i was there and i would protect him… this… broke me

The line while you're sleeping I'll try to make you proud hits hard. The last thing my dad and I said to each other was I love you. He passed away 6 years ago. I heard this a month after he died. I'm still a mess.

It's been half a year since I lost my dad. Miss you dad. My condolences to everyone in the comments who, unfortunately, share these feelings.

One guy i saw after this video phoned his dad and told him he loved him on air , your not human if you get through this song without a tear or a big headache keeping it back .

For those who didn't know, His father donated a kidney when he was younger, and at the time of this filming was in Stage 4 Kidney Failure and No matches had been find... After the Video was put out a distant cousin came forwards and was a match.. and was able to donate his kidney to James Blunts father

This is an unbelievable song on so many levels. I revisit new reaction videos weekly and cry my eyes out practically each time.
I Lost my dad to pancreatic /liver cancer 5 years ago at age 76, way too early, my mom a year prior to liver failure. I lost my sister at age 31 from a massive brain hemorrhage many years ago. There are so many things I wish I could have said to each of them before their tragic deaths, and those thoughts run through my mind all the time. I never really got any closure with my mom dad or sister before they left our world.

James Blunt has helped me to continue healing from my excessive mourning and my guilty conscience - thank you!

I love James Blunt, all his songs are beautiful!
My Dad died in 2024 and this song makes me cry every time that I listen to it.
I went down the 'reaction' rabbit hole after his death and it was comforting to me that there were other people who reacted to this song like I did. I believe that if this song does not make you feel something then I question your mental well being (😂)

I would replace the word Father for mother, that's me. RIP Mom. Love you.

So cheers guys great amazing song n artist. Beautiful goodbye n his dad was there to hear James, yeah say it❤😂🎉

James' father had 4 stage kidney failure and was close to dying when James wrote this. The I'm not your son, you're not my father is when they were both in the military on the same base. When they were going out to do their jobs, that is what they would say before they left. After the song came out, from what I understand his dad has a cousin in Sidney, I believe, that was a match and thank God, Mr. Blunt Sr. is still alive and well and yes that is his dad in the video with him.

It tears the emotions from your heart and let’s love flow

I knew a few days before my dad died he was going to die, this hit me hard. I wish I had the words I could have said. he was the man who chased the monsters away!
