At its core, the story of The Hunger Games is about the power of one person to change the world. Set in the future remnants of the USA in a new nation called Panem, one male and one female "tribute" between the ages of 11 and 18 from each of Panem's twelve districts is forced to participate in an annual competition called the Hunger Games, which is broadcast live throughout the country for the entertainment of the Capitol's wealthy residents.

Now, bestselling author Suzanne Collins and the world of The Hunger Games return in her latest addition to the series: Sunrise on the Reaping.

I like how Prim is clearly shown to not be fit for the reaping. She’s scared of blood, her stature is really small, she’s panicking the whole time and screams Katniss’ name when she takes her place, like a scared kid. Sure, she does mature as the series goes on, but her characterization in this film does wonders in proving she wouldn’t last a minute in that arena, and that Katniss knew this.

Now imagine Rue, same age as Prim, being picked and no one volunteering for her.

“One young man and one young woman” - they’re children!

It’s just so crazy to me that Prim got picked on her first year.

reminder that the three finger salute was done at funerals to honour the dead

it’s so sad that the effort Katniss made to save Prim didn’t work

The way the other kids separated from her, like she was already dead, and they were worried that they would catch it, like some contagious disease....

If you think about it, Snow's entire downfall, and the monumental collapse of his regime was caused by Effie Trinkets hand swirling around for too long in that damn bowel lol.

I still wish the film featured Haymitch diving off the stage! 😭

Parents to their children:
"Congratulations on being born into this rotten world. When you turn 12, you'll begin to experience what I experienced: reaping day until you turn 18."

Thing is odds were HARD in Prim’s favor and she still got picked.

She only had her name in once Katniss had her name in 8 times due to it going up every year and her applying for tesserae. And then there’s all the other kids who had their name in who knows how many times.

The love Katniss has for her sister is so beautiful! Even telling her mom to protect her

The way Effie says "men and women" when they're children.

2:15 I like how the camera focuses on the young kids faces as there is clear disturbing media being portrayed to them. Just shows you what a fucked up world they live in.
