Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson) starts out looking like the last person you would want in your corner and ends up being the reason Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) make it out alive. This compilation pulls together every moment where his sharp instincts, tough love, and behind the scenes moves prove that underneath all the drinking there is a mentor who knows exactly what he is doing.

At its core, the story of The Hunger Games is about the power of one person to change the world. Set in the future remnants of the USA in a new nation called Panem, one male and one female "tribute" between the ages of 11 and 18 from each of Panem's twelve districts is forced to participate in an annual competition called the Hunger Games, which is broadcast live throughout the country for the entertainment of the Capitol's wealthy residents.

Now, bestselling author Suzanne Collins and the world of The Hunger Games return in her latest addition to the series: Sunrise on the Reaping.

When I was younger I thought like ‘wow this guy sucks’ and then eventually realized that he’s just been watching these poor kids die every single year, over and over again

When you realize Haymitch has been the only mentor every year for over 2 decades 😢

“You could live a hundred lifetimes and never deserve that boy” haymitch out here giving the only criticism of katniss ive ever seen and its so accurate

"Nobody ever wins the Games. Period....there are survivors...there's no winners" Insanely powerful statement.

If I had been forced as a kid to battle other children to the death, I would likely be a drunk too.

Imagine how everyone must’ve felt seeing Haymitch sober up for the first time in years, and actually start finding sponsors.

Mags was Haymitch's mentor, so when he says he hopes she goes quietly, he means it.

I love how it isn’t until Hamitch realizes Peeta and Katness both have a fire burning in them both to survive the games, that’s when the mentoring really began.

His first sweetheart never made it into the arena, so his second had to go in twice.

It’s important to remember how many Tributes have died while he was their mentor. It explains just how broken he is even if you didn’t know his history.

Its funny how initially you might hate Effie (i know i did), but later she becomes part of their dysfunctional little "Gold" family.

I just realized Haymitch took them up to the attic of the justice building in district 11 to talk....just like Plutarch took him during his victory tour....
