Haymitch figured her out the moment she declared herself "interim president".

“… But I’m not wasteful” is a haunting line. Beautifully written

1:01 "We both know I'm not above killing children, but I'm not wasteful" might be one of coldest, impactful lines in movie history. 🥶🥶

Also, Coin absolutely WAS gunning for Katniss's sister. In the book they mention how Prim was so young, only Coin could have approved her being sent to the front lines.

As soon as she said “a symbolic hunger games” Katniss really saw who Coin was

I loved when Snow mentions their agreement not to lie to each other when Katniss says she doesn't believe him. It's twofold - not only is he not lying to her, but she actually does believe him.

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Coin not realizing the "For Prim" was venomusly directed right at her and not realizing Haymich did and didn't actually vote yes. He knew she had signed her own death warrant and was co-signing that.

The best part? Haymitch knows immediately something is off when Katniss votes yes. He knows Katniss far too well and he instantly knows she would never vote yes and has a bigger plan. Which is why he backs her. However, Katniss has to make it seem believable so she does not clue anyone in. Haymitch just instantly knows her that well. It's also why he waits to vote until hearing hers first. He knows there's a reason for her silence the entire time when she would normally be the first to stand up and speak against that stuff. He trusts her more than literally anyone.

In the book it was implied that Coin actively did want Prim killed in the explosions. It was known that Coin feared Katniss as a symbol and had thought of ways to insure she wouldn't get in the way of her rise; killing Prim was the fastest way to crush Katniss. Prim was untrained, or rather, was in training. It had been stated that she couldn't go to the front lines even though she tried to get the ball moving for special treatment before her training was complete. It's a whole thing in the book. The fact Prim was there means that she had special permission to be there, that someone high in power wrote off her training to be there. It's one reason why Katniss was so damn surprised to see her there; she knew her training was incomplete. Furthermore, it was Gale who came up with the double bombing idea and told Coin. It was vetoed heavily by Katniss because of the deaths for rescue workers. She saw it as killing innocents. So...for those of us who caught the signs....as soon as we saw the parachutes....we knew.

The vote scene was powerful because of what Katniss said. "For Prim." Anyone who knew Prim would know that she wouldn't want this. That was her code to others.

Coin definitely killed Prim on purpose. She easily could have ordered her medic unit to be in that area knowing she was going to drop the bombs there, and basically just hope she was killed. She wanted this to happen to break Katniss and make her easier to control, and it maybe would have worked.. but she didn’t understand the honest relationship Katniss had with Snow.

“My Dear Miss Everdeen…I thought we agreed never to lie to each other…”

I feel like that sentence carries the same energy as Darth Vader’s “Search your feelings. You know it to be true…” in the Empire strikes back.

I love how even when he’s locked up and defenseless and katniss is coming to visit him, he still leads the conversation and takes control of the room. He’s completely true tho, it’s not common for a leader to bomb their own country in a war against another country

Hands down best character in the series. Donald Sutherland brought this monster to life and his performance is masterful.

Coin never thought that Katniss would figure out that she killed her sister

I like how he got straight to the point. He knows katniss well enough to know why she was there even if she didn't realize it herself

When she suggested a symbolic hungar games it was at that point Katnuss mentally said to herself Im going to kill her.

The irony of it all is that of all the people, it was Haymitch who first saw through Coin's bullshit in the previous movie. He even quietly said: " I can never fully trust that woman!" Boy, was he correct in that assumption!

In the theater, I did not catch the fact Haymich voted with "The Mocking Jay", because he guessed something was up.

"You've been watching me, and I, I've been watching you." from that point onward she never took her eyes off Coin
