Friedkin telling stories? I'm all in!!

Friedkin certainly was a prickly character. You can easily see why Pacino disliked him so much. Saying that, To Live and Die in LA is a classic and one of the greatest movies from the 1980's.

SeriousFeather is one of the best channels!

Friedkin mentions the difficulty of filming the bridge sequence before the era of CGI.  That recalls the filming of Fitzcarraldo, in which Herzog is forced to cope with similar elements in a rainforest.  The great directors didn't shy away from stuff like this, they just did it (with time and elbow grease).  Kudos to Friedkin

YEEEES!! THANK YOU! I was just telling my friend about this movie last week. Such an overlooked gem.

Love Roy Scheider

I came across it later in life. One of my favorites. Especially the incredible score by Tangerine Dream.

Imagine having William Friedkin for a sit-down interview on his greatest movie - one of the greatest movies of all time - and this is the best Refn could manage. There's far too little out there about this movie. This waste of a conversation is absolutely criminal.

Sorcerer was almost a film called BALLBREAKER starring Warren Oates...no joke

I remember seeing this in 1977, and what Friedkin was right: With Star Wars, everything changed with the new audience. And the last ten minutes of the interview says it all about the film business. Friedkin
was that good.

This movie is a masterpiece, stumbled on it last year from a recommendation. I didn’t research it so had no idea it was a remake of a movie I had watched a few years ago. Wow what an original cast but I feel it wouldn’t have made the movie any better though, the actual cast were superb. I’m going to watch it again, and really study it now I know more of the details of how it was produced and made. Thanks for the upload. 🎬

I consider myself to be part of an older audience that likes to see realism over CGI. To me, this film is one of the best in terms of storyline, as well as how it was made. These types of camera angles are not shown anymore in modern films.

Friedkin also directed The Exorcist!  Thanks Mr F!

That is one intense movie. A remake of a French film

Great movie, with wrong title.  Audience expected another exorcist, looking at the title.  They felt deceived by the movie.

Firstly, I could sit and listen to Friedkin all day long. We all know he is one opinionated dude, but when you're that dude that created masterpieces such as The Exorcist or The French Connection well, he can be as opinionated as he jolly well likes 😅. And until I read one of the comments I had no idea it was the director Nicolas Winding Refn interviewing him - I don't think Mr.Feathers mentions it anywhere? I loved The Pusher trilogy that he made. And I thought Drive was ok.

As for the interview, I have to say, if I had ever been lucky enough to sit opposite the genius that is William Friedkin, I can certainly think of many way more interesting questions than Refn did. He kept labouring on and on about the same point, that even WF called him out on it. As a pure coincidence, I only watched Sorcerer for the first time about a month ago. Just thinking about it now, there are a shit ton of questions and discussions I would've loved to get into with Friedkin. For example, just the technical aspects of 'that' bridge scene - I could've picked his brains about that for an hour alone. What was Roy Scheider like to work with, and as a person, because he had worked with him twice. I could go on, you get the idea. And you would think that with Refn being a director himself, he would've wanted to ask way more interesting questions.

But that's just my humble little opinion.... have a great weekend all 😊🎥

❤

The great directors like Friedkin didn’t get that way by kowtowing to prima-donna actors and studio heads. They were single minded and fought hard to achieve their vision. Regardless of whether or not their efforts succeeded or failed, they always took ownership. Friedkin didn’t suffer fools -  this self absorbed interviewer included. RIP Bill, we sure could use your talent nowadays…

Friedkin summed up Refn quite accurately: "you are nothing but a pimple in the annals of history" or something like that. Awful interviewer.
That said, here's something to consider: Sorcerer was written for Steve McQueen. Had he been the lead, the box office fate would have been different.
Roy Scheider was a good actor, but he does not hold the screen as a lead and was arguably miscast here. Sorcerer is an incredible film, and the bridge sequence ranks among the greatest set pieces ever filmed.

Music by Tangerine Dream 🎶. Iv  Never actually seen the movie, this has reminded me to see it sum how, sum place ?            🦅
