In September 1944 near Arracourt, France, German Panther tanks advanced through heavy Lorraine fog into a battlefield where their long-range firepower and frontal armor were far less decisive. This video follows the M18 Hellcat crews of the 704th Tank Destroyer Battalion as they used speed, rolling terrain, concealment, and close-range flanking attacks to strike German armor from vulnerable angles while supporting the U.S. 4th Armored Division. The story explores how fog compressed engagement distances, how American tank destroyers exploited mobility instead of trading frontal shots with Panthers, and why Arracourt became one of the most significant U.S.-German armored clashes of the Lorraine Campaign.
