In September 1944 near Arracourt, France, German Panther-equipped panzer brigades struck the exposed flank of Patton’s Third Army under dense fog that grounded American fighter-bombers and concealed the advancing armor. This video follows how the U.S. 4th Armored Division used M4 Shermans, M18 Hellcats, self-propelled artillery, terrain, radio coordination, and aggressive flanking maneuvers to counter the German offensive. Rather than treating Arracourt as a simple Panther-versus-Sherman comparison, the story examines how crew experience, combined-arms tactics, mobility, communications, and the battlefield environment helped American forces neutralize advantages in armor and long-range firepower during one of the major armored clashes of the Western Front.
