July 22, 1944. Eight Tigers, one narrow road, and a village already swarming with Soviet armor. This is the story of how a single Panzer company held the line at Malinava — and why the man who led it walked away with the highest count of tank kills of any Tiger commander in the war.

Otto Carius and his wingman Albert Kerscher pushed two Tigers alone into Malinava while six more waited in reserve, unsure if they'd ever come back. What happened in the next thirty minutes became one of the most extraordinary single actions of the Eastern Front — and this video reconstructs it minute by minute, from inside the tank.

⚠️ This is a dramatized reconstruction of Otto Carius's action at Malinava on the twenty-second of July, nineteen forty-four, based on his own memoir ("Tigers in the Mud") and on the battalion's after-action report by Major Schwaner. The central facts — unit, date, location, outcome of the action — are documented. The thoughts, sensations, and internal dialogue are dramatization, created for narrative purposes, and should not be taken as a literal record of Carius's words or thinking.
