Captain here isnt a drinker. The "checking the o2" was because he was hung over and o2 helps alleviate hangover symptoms, in the military you would hear about pilots still having a bit of a hangover and as soon as the o2 flow starts they feel much better

Dude working line maintenance i can 100% say I've smelled alcohol on pilots

I'm sitting here arguing with the real pilot, saying, "Shut up--Denzel knows what he's doing!" 🙂

I remember the air Alaska crash those were damn good crew and pilots they fought like hell to save that plane

I always found it hilarious that the first officer looks terrified the whole time. Even before they takeoff.

The majority of the film is about how Washington’s character finally takes responsibility for his actions and admits he has an addiction problem and becomes sober.

13:47 Early the Co pilot mentioned they loss oil pressure which tells me the engine is running without lubrication and the heat is going to build up really fast from friction

I believe he said they loss oil pressure before the inversion which could further support his defense in court of a mechanical failure to the plane

2:57 switch to 100% oxygen it clears the hangover. Mechanics do it too 😂

Great movie! The bigger story is that addiction can be found in any profession, including aviation.

2:28 FYI he’s hitting the O2 because he’s hung over and O2 helps. I know from growing up around doctors who told me they hit oxygen for hangover cure.

I first saw this movie when I was still an active alcoholic…I remember watching the ending when he finally admits he’s an alcoholic…it’s somewhat hard for me to watch now but I thank god I can finally say I’m a recovering alcoholic with 11 years sobriety…I remember the freedom I felt when I admitted I was an alcoholic at my first AA meeting…

I remember sitting, alone, drinking and watching this movie several times and wishing I could be like him at the end of the movie…

If you’re struggling with addiction, you can get sober…ONE DAY AT A TIME

The most realistic pilot movie ever is “Flight of the Intruder.” Hands down

14:00 you could get a fire if you’re inverted because the oil is only designed to flow right side up so when you invert the oil isn’t flowing through the engine correctly

13:50 During that scene he calls "We are losing old pressure". This means the old pumps weren't design to pickup oil with the plane upside down.
Without oil pressure the engines have no lubrication. Without lubrication things will break pretty fast.
Aerobatic plane engines are specially design to be able to run in any position. This is not the norm on commercial airline planes since they are not expected to ever need to fly upside down.
