Did anyone pick up on the fact that the mother said that other people cutting her off was the worst part? Not losing her daughter. But other people rejecting her.

I want to remind people that after daughter wrote a page long letter and mom's reply was -- "Received".
Daughter did the whole, "Tell us what the problem is." and got a one word reply and the parent thought it would all "just blow over". What an absolute slap to the face.

She kept saying she couldn't MAKE her daughter come back. I think she said it several time. MAKE. This is about CONTROL.

I'm a mother and my own mother was abusive in every way imaginable.. I want desperately to not turn out like her but I'm noticing traits in myself that she had so I'm watching this and other videos to help me avoid the same pitfalls... I've also been to therapy hoping I can break the cycle.... thank you ladies...

If Hayley reestablished contact, shed be apologising to these people every single day for the rest of her life (when shes done nothing wrong) and itd never be enough for them. Theres so much, but the total inability of the mother to even consider that her daughter is possibly happier, loved, accepted, authentically herself and expressing her best self *right now*, not living some pretend life, I don't have the words for that. I hope that she is. Hayley, if you ever read this, I admire your strength and courage and I hope the life you've built is fabulous!

So many signs of narcissistic behaviors - victim mentality, lack of self reflection and accountability, contempt, dismissiveness, etc. - the daughter did the right thing by going no contact and my heart goes out to her.

“My dad died but i didn’t bother to tell her because she didnt really know him”

I mean, it sounds like he was important to her though, to remember his birthday even when you dont.

Not really her job as a kid to remember everyone’s birthday.

Oh I recognize both the voice and the content. I found this video shortly after it came out and before it went viral. I broke down point after point of where her behavior was problematic and promptly got blocked when I refuted her pathetic counter-points/excuses.

This woman is so toxic.

My mother is a spitting image of this monster. I went no contact 38 years ago and I saw them ever think about her. However, she still sends me snail mail hate mail telling me how everything wrong in the family is my fault. What's even funnier is that I stop talking to her when I was 21 and still everything that's happened to the family since I've got no contact is still my fault.

In every letter she tells me what a fantastic mother she was and how I just need to forgive her and move on. I've moved on. I don't need to forgive you. Why don't you just get over it and stop acting like this woman and so obsessed with me yet you absolutely hate my guts.

I really think these monsters find it so much easier to focus and blame on everybody else like a true narcissist instead of focusing on and fixing themselves

The birthday martyrdom is so strange. I recall my own mother telling me about a story about a "friend" to push this idea onto me. The story was that the daughter would give her mother a gift on her own birthday as a way to thank her for giving her life.🙄I remember thinking, "That mother must be really wonderful to inspire a gift on her child's birthday, unprompted." I also clearly thought about how my mother was not so wonderful, and only inspired shame. I guess it had the opposite effect that my mother intended.

This whole video was so validating for me. I’ve been no contact for MANY many reasons for 5 years. I had no idea other parents had this type of attitude when I was growing up. I felt so alone and unbelievably depressed because I thought it was just me dealing with a terrible, mean mother like this. I blamed it all on myself. Thank you for shining light on this subject

She is a perfect example of what estranged parents always do. "I have no idea what I actually did. The outburst came out of nowhere. Let me guess what it was about", when the child wrote pages explaining to them exactly what happened. And the parent will still go to an estranged parent "support" group and say they were never told why their child stopped speaking to them.

The way undiagnosed and unacknowledged and not understood neurodiversity is a part of this story is so clear. As soon as this parent described her own father…the writing was on the wall.

This is by no means an excuse for the emotional neglect happening here. But it’s such a key step to repair, even if it is only in the families of the estranged adult child and they own kids if they are also parents.
