What a rare talent was Jack Paar! He is so witty and pleasurable to watch. It's fitting that Jack Benny, another of the same talents, gave Jack Paar his start in television. ❤️ May God rest their souls. 🙏
A challenge for a retrospective like this: the vast majority of Paar's career doesn't survive on videotape, except for a handful of best-of clips. Johnny Carson, upon discovering that NBC had also done away with the first decade of his shows, imposed demands that all of his shows from 1972-1992 be archived (a smart business move, since they're in reruns today).
Jack Par was such a class act. No one ever equaled him, much less surpassed him. I was very sad when he was no longer the MC of the Tonight Show. It was always such a deligt to watch his show. Johnny Carson was good but...
His writer guest started me reading and buying books at age 16. I still have books featured on his show by Jack Douglas and Alexander King. I cannot watch todays Late Night shows which inspire hardly anything as Paar did.. His show changed my life!!!
Hugh Downs, ... talk about a consumate "Supreme Broadcast, Anchor, Journalist"
Jack Parr, in his genre', likewise had his unique Supreme Value and was the cutting edge, 1st in the Late Night Shows, and only he and Carson had that something special.
Others were good, but they were/are a different era and flavor.
