20 YEARS! What are your thoughts on Idiocracy?

Every couple months Critic reviews a movie that makes me say "Wait he hasn't done this yet?"

I think the over-reliance on narration is kind of on point for a movie about idiots, because it literally treats you, the viewer, like an idiot who needs everything explained to you.

And I mean, in an age of "Netflix" writing, I'd argue this was way ahead of its time.

FUN FACT: Mike Judge came up with the plot when he encountered two moms fighting with their kids in Disneyland.

Mike Judge said the only thing he just missed was social media and how quickly that accelerated people's stupidity...

To be fair it did not predict the future, it was warning about what was already happening

To think there was a time when this was seen as incredibly exaggerated. Now it's kinda scary how well this keeps aging every year. I'd love those giant french fry buckets, though.

There's a quote from Aliens that sums up how I feel about this movie. "Did IQs just drop sharply while I was away?"

Wish Doug looked up the history of the development of this film. It's budget was cut almost 70% when sponsors (who paid to have their name in the film) discovered the movie was MAKING FUN of corporations (and them). Nearly all funding for the film was immediately cut and the movie had to be literally dumped onto cinemas as it was... it didn't feel cheap because it was inentional, it was because executives shit their pants when they realized the movie was an entire critique of corporations.

Keep in mind, President Camacho actually tried to listen to his advisors.

Those are artistic court depictions, because even 500 years later you are still not allowed to bring a camera into court. The joke is that the court artist is still heavily biased.

This movie gave us Crocs. For that it shall never be forgiven!

Honestly I think the narrator aged well. Especially since no one watches the film any more they put it on in the background and look at their phone. The narrator clearly was put there knowing attention spans would disappear

You forgot the post credits scene where Upgrayedd emerges from his own stasis pod and goes off to find Rita. 😂

Obligatory "Nice to see Doug reviewing documentaries for a change" joke

This movie reminds me a lot of the whole "the Simpsons predicted the future" thing. Good comedy writers are very intelligent and pick up on stuff like this quickly. That's what makes stuff like this so "prophetic." It doesn't so much predict the future as it did take the (then) present to its logical conclusion. All of this stuff was there in 2006. Judge just exaggerated it for comedic effect.
