It’s Christmas in The Inbetweeners universe… which means chaos, awkwardness, terrible decisions, and Will taking his new job way too seriously.

Will volunteers to run the school’s end-of-term Christmas party, dragging Simon, Jay, and Neil along as his “team.” Naturally, nothing goes to plan.
Simon tries (again) to win over Carli…
Jay lies (again) about everything…
Neil just vibes (but a bit too hard on his female teacher)...
And Will? Well… he does his best. Sort of.

This episode had us CACKLING — the awkwardness, the disasters, the cringe, the school party politics… it’s The Inbetweeners at its chaotic best.

I'm so glad you guys picked up on the fact that that girl was supposed to be "the female Jay". Every other reactor misses that detail. The whole "are you bent?" and the obvious BS that she makes up about being a top DJ in Ibiza

Drinking age is 18 but people treat it more like a guideline. My mum bought me alcohol a few times when i was 14

You can drink certain alcoholic drinks at 16 with an adult in presence and food, also you can drink from 5 years old at home with adults present

You don't seem to recognise that these kids are 17, months away from legally being able to go out drinking on their own. The drinking age is 18 but children can drink alcohol younger but under adult supervision

RE: the Carly question. I think the idea is that he has history, he grew up with her. Maybe they went to Primary together?

Generally the rule is any age can drink alcohol but only people 18 and over can purchase it. Also love the reactions, the films are also worth a watch.

I love how you said Gilbert "plays his character well." The actor used to be an actual teacher...so i think trauma/experience played a part

Carly and Simon are family friends so their families attend lots of events together and even New Years celebrations and meals together, so I think whether they like it or not they have to be around each other due to their families.

having the tiny little tie is a mixture of things, the first being if one "cool" kid does it, everyone copies. Secondly, while we do have uniforms at school, if there's no specific rules about how something has to be worn, kids will often do things to try and be a bit more individual, although most things are specified in the rules so there's not much you can do. I know when i was at school, back in the 90's, "peanutting" someone was a "thing" when you grabbed someones tie and pulled down really hard to make the knot super small and hard to undo, the trick to avoiding it was to place a 2p coin inside the knot to stop it being able to get too small/tight.

James Buckley (Jay) and Joe Thomas (Simon) are both in another British sitcom called White Gold. Criminally underrated and tragically never got renewed so it’s only 2 seasons but their characters give similar vibes to this but obvs different story etc. very funny imo.

There are a lot of convoluted drinking rules in the UK. They mentioned some of them in the first episode. Like, Cider, Mead and Wine under specific circumstances can be drank by 16 year olds (sometimes younger) in pubs and restaurants. In other circumstances, it's down to the parents judgement, for example, if a dad or grandad or other family member let's their kid have sip of beer or cider...nobody is going to go to prison for that. And there are many other's based on area laws (Wales, Scotland, England and N. Ireland) which will have varying age allowances for specific types of alcohol, their alcohol content and amount (pints, half-pints etc)...like I said, it's really convoluted. haha

The tie is one way school kids can expressive themselves, myself I wore it fat way out and long to be different to guys who wore it thin ways out and tucked into the shirt, oh and I also melted the end with a lighter as it was made from nylon

Ah, the baby tie. Yeah, it was a popular stylistic choice to wear your tie like that, the big part is tucked inside the shirt so only the little part is out. It was stupid.
