Yk what’s a trope I don’t see ppl talking about? The one where the daughter who’s usually extremely young has to “win over” the affection of her dad. I’ve never seen this trope done with mothers mostly cause I think if a mother didn’t love her children the story would never redeem her.

Another one is how no one except conventionally attractive wealthy men are afforded redemption. If you’re ugly fat a woman or poor the story will make your actions ten times worse than they are and then forgive the mc for mass murder or something

We need more children written as PEOPLE! Plss I beg of everyone!

I also despise the slavery trope. Author need to stop romanticizing slavery

My biggest gripe is how everyone looks the same. The male lead will be 7ft and have a chin that can cut a orange. And the female lead is built like a literal hourglass.

A trope I don't like is when the f mc gets together with her killer. Like, why do you want to be together with the one who literally ended your life?

I hate the incest trope.

8:00 One of my worst pet peeves in manhwas is when the author clearly doesn’t know how actual kids work. Like why is the 5 year old baby talking and barely forming sentences. They should be past that stage, someone put that kid in speech therapy.

Making the kids  ask the mom to stay with the abusor could be interesting if the children were written to be mis-informed.

Like the dad never abuses the mom in front of them.

So from there perspective, they love their mom and dad both so much, but their mom wants to leave, and force them to choose one, and never see one of their parents, their idols, ever again.

The mother can’t bring herself to tell the children how cruel their father is at this point, as it will break their little hearts, if they even believe her at all.

And she knows her husband might convince  them that she’s a liar if she does, making them ultimately closer to him and more distant from her.

So she gives in and lets her children convince her to stay.

But one day she can’t take it anymore and when her children are asking her why she ever wanted to leave, she tells them the truth.

Her husband is so angry, he beats her right in front of them. Do they get the claim and the proof back to back.

They’re totally traumatized by the fact that they loved and idolized such a cruel man all their life, and they have trust issues forever, but they choose to run away with their mom. All but one, the youngest, whom the husband has been subtly brainwashing for years.

The mother and the other children have no choice but to leave without him, but the mother never loses hope that one day her little boy will see the truth and come back to her.

I feel like it could be interesting if the author cared to do it well.

I've seen SO MANY CN web novel isekai protagonists who will start some farm or business and immediately jump to buying slaves.
Some didn't give any justification at all besides it being a "Practical" move because they need to protect their "Secret Recipe", while others tried to reason it away with the idea that slavery exists in the time period no matter what so why can't they use it. They'll treat their slaves better and even help them get married or live well later so it's fine.
I saw a particularly bad instance where a character's tribe was fighting rival tribes AND taking in hundreds of people as slave labor. Basically said it would be fine because they were well fed and treated them "Mostly" okay so long as they didn't try to escape so OF COURSE, they'd LOVE to keep being slaves and would get used to being second class citizens.
I find it very WEIRD that the "Noble" slave owner is such a common trope in quite a few Asian webnovels but I'm not going to try to comment on it further as an outsider.

The last trope is one I especially hate, since my mom was actually victimized in the past by an ex who used me and my siblings against her (we never sided with him, but he used us all the same)

Children see abuse, so unless their HEAVILY brainwashed, I'm always flabbergasted when a child sees their mom in pain and doesn't HATE their bio dad.

However, the Manhwa I hate the MOST with this "Staying with the abuser" trope is one where the ML not only holds a child from outside the forced marriage HOSTAGE, but forces the female lead to have 2 more children.

He than gets jealous she loves her kids more than him, so to punish her he takes a second wife, and takes the sickly infant from the FL for the second wife to raise.

The second wife neglects the new born resulting in her death.

FL has a mental breakdown.

By the end of the story, they get back together, and I guess the other two living children DIE because they aren't mentioned again despite the FL supposedly continuing her suffering for their sake.

I am not joking, someone thought this was a good idea to make into a comic.

Before this one, Abandoned Empress was my example of badly written trauma turned happy ending tropes.

can we also talk about the trope of "raising my lover" which is basically the mc or ml is raising there lover and once the ml/mc grows up and they then decide to get into a relationship with the mc who was an adult when they met mind you while he was a child, and that also corresponds to the trope of getting the male lead to fall in love with you when they were a child while the mc is mentally older and then later down the line they get together. I don't know if its just me but that feels like hella grooming, all the manwhas who have used this trope always tries to justify it by the ml receiving kindness for the first time yet it still feels wrong that the mc also starts to catch feelings for the ml when they are mentally older than there lover by a decade or so. The ONLY manwha who has achieved using this trope somewhat is the manwah named "Who made me a Princess" since even if the ml is mentally older and by age older than her she herself is  also mentally older by 40 years when they start a relationship which is the only one ive seen use this trope In a correct format that doesn't seem like grooming

Another mainstream trope as far as I noticed back when I was reading these stories with no actual thought into them I hadn’t realized how creepy it was but it’s really starting to piss me off when the fml reincarnates into a child but has all her memories, sees herself as an adult ect and still falls for the male lead, who is an actual child. It’s giving pedo in disguise. Sometimes they’re even in a situation where they are kind of “raising” the ml (which is even put in some of the titles and is the main point of the story). it’s literally grooming (they even comments on how they are actually an adult and they only see him as a cute kid yet somehow they still fall for them late on. Or even worse, its love at first sight for them.) they’re literally the Rudeus Greyrat’s of the manwha community (though admittedly they don’t make the characters act as gross and despicable as him, which is probably why it’s so easily overlooked.) no one ever really calls out this problematic story telling. A simple way to avoid the whole thing was literally letting them grow up again, so you can have your childcare novel, then fall in love with someone who is also an adult but honestly the writers don’t seem interested in thinking that hard about it.

Edit: holy rant, I didn’t notice how much I typed 😭

It always annoyed me how they handled the villainess reincarnation tropes. The og villainess is portrayed as cartoonishly evil - mean, horrible, spoiled rotten and obsessed with the ml. Everyone hates her. And then instead of character development or facing consequences for her actions she is just replaced by the isekaied MC who, of course, is an angel who can do no wrong, and once she starts acting nice nobody questions her change in behavior. Sure, they're confused at first, but they quickly accept it and whatever lame excuse MC gave them. And can we talk about how the MCs always have the same backstory? The plain, shy and quiet wallflower that everyone bullies and her family hates her and her life is just soooo horrible and she's victimized because, as I said, she can do no wrong.

So why don't we change it up a bit? Why not make a story where instead of being bullied, MC was one the bullIES. She and the villainess have similar personalities, so when she gets reincarnated, her behavior doesn't really change and nobody bats an eye lol. Except that unlike in her previous life, people actually do stand up to her in this world and there are consequences to her abuse and that makes her think. Think about how her attitude and actions have an effect on other people and her own life. She would see herself reflected in the og villainess and that people don't hate her because she's the villainess, but because she's herself. That would be the beginning of her redemption arc where she tries to change her attitude towards other people and earn their forgiveness. I like to imagine that she becomes more considerate while keeping her edge and confidence 'cause I love me a diva.

The Remarried Empress has no business being 247 chapters.

The reincarnated into a villainess and not being a villain or doing anything remotely villainy pisses me off so much, it's just cowardly of the writer. Either go hard or go home.

You talking about the "secretly royalty the whole time" trope really reminded me of "The Villainess Turns The Hourglass"... probably one of my least favourite parts of the story tbh.

Honestly, when I first started reading it, I was so sure that the plot twist wass going to be that Aria and Mielle were trapped in this cycle of being each others villainess- like how an hourglass drains from one side to fill the other, they would each take turns ruining the other's life over grudges from the previous loop. I thought it would be an interesting way to interrogate the idea of justifying revenge over something that hasn't happened yet. But nope, Mielle just wanted to torment Aria for shits and giggles I guess, so Aria is totally justified doing literally the exact same thing that was done to her but to Mielle. Sigh.

I think the only story I've seen that's actually bothered to address this sort of thing is "The Price Is Your Everything" where Nerys DOES actually contemplate whether or not she's in the right for preemptively retaliating against her past life's oppressors and whether or not that makes her just as bad them, before receiving definitive proof that "no, these people have not and will not change, and she very much needs to defend herself against them." Even if the results are the same, I think taking that extra step really helps the readers continue to root for her, instead of starting to feel bad for the villains.

On the secretly royal trope, it’s better when done around the START of the story, because by then the protagonist hasn’t done much then and therefore it can work better overall with any accomplishments only amplifying their status in some way

on the topic of suddenly changing personalities, it doesn't make any sense for me when in the scenario where mc reincarnated and lived her life just as the villainess and then gained past life's memories, she suddenly stops acting in any way similar to the villainess. like yeah she's bound to change after getting those memories but she still lived that life and had this character, it wouldn't get completely erased from getting more context. the personality should be an in-between with traits of both the past life and the villainess

why add context of her being in the body from the start if you're just going to do nothing interesting with it and go same route as any "just got dropped off at the specific point in story"

The secretly royalty trope where everyone is suddenly treating the main character differently because of that has actually some potential as well in my opinion! I think it could be really interesting if the main character has negative feelings about it and tries to revert the situation, because MC feels like it invalidates all their previous accomplishments

Number 7 really bothers me too, especially when he’s set up to be the second romantic lead, but even the story itself doesn't take him seriously.

There’s a manhwa—I can't recall the name—where the leads have a contract marriage; they get along well and build a friendship during the first month, but then the male lead "dies" in a carriage accident. The female lead is left overwhelmed, and that’s when Number 7 steps in to help her for about two years. She’s incredibly grateful for his support, and just as the contract is about to expire—with HER mentally resolving to propose to him*—guess who shows up alive and kicking, crashing the ball? Number 7 actually holds onto her, pointing out that *he was the one who stood by her side all that time. You can see the look on her face—she’s the same person who, just two panels earlier, was saying "I’m going to make him my man," and now she’s completely torn.
He only appears in one more chapter before vanishing into thin air (at least for the next 20 chapters I read), and the story just reverts to their original dynamic—as if it were still only the second month of their marriage—with that two-year absence/death scenario glossed over and forgotten once he explains it was a secret mission for the Crown.
