this is specific, but words can't describe how much I hate the "forgive the abuser", "bully x victim", "teacher x underage student" and "raised their own partner" tropes

I despise the, "was a horrible partner in first life, but now that the fl is making different decisions everyone likes her now," trope.

The "not interested in women or romance" is probably used to show that only the female lead is special and good enough to be of interest to the man. So basically just another way to elevate the specialness of the heroine

You know it's funny, because in certain websites I've seen jokes about a "Gossip lady". Basically, due to the fact that many manhwas reuse 3D backgrounds, many people started noticing that across different titles, during the gossip scenes there's always one blank-faced character that is present(I think she has pink hair?) and started jokingly calling her a "Gossip lady", making up lore that she is a traveling across dimensions and her main objective is to spread rumors to move the plot along.

In a sub trope of cubes…I HATE it when in the story they’ll be sitting down for breakfast but there’ll be a whole roast beef/ham, chicken legs, and steak on the table

Nah frfr with this one, “you can’t justify why revenge is a morally good so just make god on your side” is a wild trope i see way too often

15:31 actual villain of this thing should be the father, bc WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE WAS SEDUCED BY A GIRL WHO BARELY HIT PUBERTY 😭

I've been waiting for you to touch on the "Poor People, Eww" trope, it's so common I'm starting to worry about these webtoon creators! Also, why are the female protagonists almost always blonde???

Okay but I don't know how any tropes can be worse than the "just missed them" trope

I think the biggest issue is that all these stories are just modern korean/chinese chaebol soap operas with a fantasy/european/victorian coat of paint.

In other words, it's not about the romance or fantasy, but all about the DRAMA!!!

The worst tropes I have to suffer is  jsut the darn fl raising the ml and the fact that I have to suffer the sibling romance tropes

the relationship between fl/villainess and wealth/poverty is definitely something that stands out and i feel like it HAS to be heavily linked to south korean cultural perception..

i feel like western audiences are more used to cinderella stories (poor girl gets rich and powerful bc she deserves it) or lost princess tropes (poor girl was actually rich and powerful but didn't know it) but in those stories the villainess is usually someone who initially has more power/wealth, eg mean noble girls looking down on the poor protagonist

but in all those manwhas the fl spends none or very little time in poverty being the underdog, instead she is actively shown as privileged over the villainesses and deserving of it... rather than "i had nothing and despite the odds won everything for being virtuous", we get "i've got everything and i've defeated the evil people who've tried to take it away from me".. in a weird twist, the underdog is the villain, and it's like deservedness comes from privilege, rather than the other way around?

7:30 that’s another reason many loved Jinu, because yes he helped Rumi and redeemed himself and yet he received his punishment for leaving his family behind and stealing souls of humans for the literal DEMON KING KWIMA

I hate when webtoons will have a protagonist that's "amazing" with buisness, but it's really only because they read the original story or they went back in time. Could we please have a character that happens to have a knack for it, but there is still stuff they have to learn? Which is why I love the Webtoon "Proof of Dignity"! The main character was born poor and smart, but talent alone won't be enough to help her as she gets to a high school for rich and highly educated peers.

"it was forever ago AND IN CANADA OR SOMETHING" LMAOOOOOOOO

The thing that confused me the most about the war hound trope and other similar “the ml/fl is a war criminal” tropes is the lack of real consequences it presents to the point where it just feels pointless. Like why even establish that they’ve done awful things if in like 10 chapters they want you to forget it?
But I think it boils down to these authors lazily wanting to make the ml/fl seem “dangerous“ and/or “badass” and just can’t or refuse to come up with anything more creative. They don’t want to get into the implications or consequences bc they didn’t want to think that deep into it and just want to hop to the romance, and I think that’s a real shame.
Like imagine with me for a moment, a story about a woman forced to marry a feared warlord that ravaged her people. But when she meets him face to face he’s… oddly calm, jovial even. He doesn’t present as any kind of feared warlord even though she herself has seen what he’s capable of, and as they bond those memories of what she’s witnessed burn in the back of her head. She tries to rationalize that maybe he’s a different man, maybe that wasn’t him or maybe he’s changed, but one day she learns that no, he’s that same man that ruined her life but also the same man with that warm and welcoming smile and she doesn’t know what to do. How can he act like that knowing what he’s done? How is this the same man? Will she fall in love with him or will she learn to just put up with the company of this monster? Or will she escape and perhaps avenge her people? Can she even do that anymore?
This idea isn’t perfect but it’s emblematic of how I feel about many of these tropes, they could provide nuanced and interesting stories about all kinds of things but so many of these authors just simply don’t care or want to. So many just want a simple black and white romance and in a vacuum there’s nothing wrong with that, but they overuse these ideas that could be so interesting and just leave some viewers feeling edged out of what could’ve been a unique and interesting read.

Another trope I’m not a fan of is when a grown adult gets reincarnated into a kid/teenage body and starts falling for someone else in their new body’s age range but they have the mind of their adult self. Like???? Huh 😭

I really dislike it when the main lead goes back in time to bully their enemy, because they always assume that the enemy is pure evil from birth, and there's nothing they can do to change that. Like my dude, I find it hard to believe that you have the right to publicly shame your currently 8-year-old enemy for something they didn't have any control over, simply because in a future, they were awful to you.

The whole male love interest bit shows that the audience wants their fantasy boyfriend to be a big strong badass but they don’t want him to actually act like it… they want to control him. You know, like a dog.

LOVE TRI HIGH IS BAAAACKK!!! 🔥🔥🔥 1,000/10
