35 years later... a legend is restored - Ivan Marks, one of the most popular anglers of all time, and his first programme for Clean River Fishing.
Presented by David Hall, at Cuttle Mill Fishery. I never met Ivan, this was before my time, but I worked a lot with David Hall in his last few years. We made 2 TV series together and I was the first writer he contracted for Total Sea Fishing.
David loved nothing more than sitting beside the best of anglers and drawing out their finest techniques and this was HIS first appearance on Clean River Fishing as well.
The tackle may have moved on, but the techniques are as sensible and realistic as they were back then.
The difference is you can now watch it on your phone.. on the bankside!

He got me to think deeply about what I was doing, 'think like a fish!' It made a difference. Too many anglers sit and look at their motionless float or tip, fire in some feed, still their float or tip sits still, they change nothing, then complain that they got a 'bad peg', then do the same again next week!
Over the next 30 years I won many matches (some before I was 18) on our local match circuit, met many great anglers and have lots of wonderful memories, thanks to the inspiration of Ivan in those early years, it was life changing.
Sadly I never got to meet him to thank him.

Always remember him with a cigarette in his mouth. And a disgorger behind his ear. Oh! And an eyeshade. 😊
