Loving the kill team format for releasing all these nice to have units that don't need full armies

This just shows that gw could have just updated firstborn models instead of cutting them.

If Agents get these guys and the buffs to their Deathwatch units (as in, to current marine stats), they may actually be good enough to be fun.

Looks like every single Space Marine player that had a few Tac Squads now have a starting Legion of the Damned army.

Ho look! a flaming TACTICAL SQUAD appeared!

Insert "so early the Legion of the Damned were the Fire Hawks" comment here.

Fun fact: they were actually referenced during the Arks of Omen campaign with bodies being left full of bolter holes that smelled of Brimestone and many bodies burned beyond recognition. I think it was the Blood Angels that found the remains.. It was implied that the force was active during that time.

Lore wise, I always figured most of the explanations of their origin arent mutually exclusively. Essentially, they may be drawn from many chapters fighting beyond the bounds of mortality, and that the firehawks were essentially inducted en mass when they became lost in the warp. They pretty clearly are warp entities of some sort, but it might not be entirely correct to call them daemons since theyre entities empowered by the emporer they may be more physical than typical daemons, or it may vary a bit from legionare to legionare.

The coolest guys in 40k

Nice models. Proves they could have just upscaled Tactical Marines etc. Looks way cooler than primaris.

@cytorakdemon 6 days ago

The sergeant has two weapon options for range and melee, you can give him a power sword or chain sword, and a bolt pistol or plasma pistol.

I think it was the Warhammer 40k YouTube channel that made a post showing off the option.

I'm definitely going to try to get that ancient's standard.... thing looks sick!

@ChaseSkuppin 6 days ago

Its hard to say these wont get the "harlequins" effect if they are their own "chapter/faction" - I see them being mixed in with regular marines asap.

@weegomo 5 days ago

My favorite origin theory for them is that they're the loyalist Marines that did not survive the istvaan dropsite massacre

I really hope they make a legion of the damned dreadnought as a nemesis agent for killteam. With that, maybe another vehicle and character or 2 and theyd be basically a standalone faction unto themselves.

Also PLEASE i hope they do damned bikers, go FULL ghost rider vibe with them

Alway enjoyed these when they've done them. A friend had a full metal squad and the dreadnought.

I like how they have done the flames.

I expect they'll be fairly open to most Imperial armies at first then restricted later.

Thanks Auspex

There are a couple of things I remember making them special in the older editions that could be fun to play with.

- They didn't just have their move stat reduced. They had slow and purposeful, meaning they could ignore things like heavy and rapid fire.
With the bolters now getting a heavy fire mode, it could be fun if they just got the +1 to hit baked in.

- They had improved deep strike either by making it more precise (rerolling any scatter) or more interesting, being able to deep strike no matter what.
While it used to say even if the scenario did not allow it, I could see them ignoring any rules that prevent them from setting up in an area like the infiltrators omni-scramblers.

- They used to be fearless making them immune to a range of effects and they did not have to take a break test.
This would be the equivalent of them being unable to be battleshocked.
More likely it would mean giving them a great LD and/or ignoring negative modifiers to it

For anyone who may be upset about the flames being minimal, this is where you get the green stuff and make sculpts of flames (you can also use Blue stuff to copy the molds of the flames, then use green stuff to make the flames)

Then apply the extra flames onto the models as desired

@pumpkinpumpkinton4764 6 days ago

i really really hope they're super elite, cuz right now im making a custodes list that i'll be running as legion of the damned, so they better be proper warp monsters
