In a remote mountain location in Wales I find an abandoned industrial town build around a slate quarry. I spend the night and for an entire day eat only traditional food that has been consumed here for hundreds of years.

Binoculars update. Emailed RSPB, but apparently it was a very old expired membership code and no number on their system. Booo. Stuck a post in a couple of FB groups, but nothing yet.

You're not far from Manod/Bwlch-y-Slaters where the government created a secret storage facility for the National Gallery during WW2 and was maintained until the 80's as an emergency storage area in the event of national emergency

Fun fact, as a bird nerd: while birding you occasionally get a bit bored. Binoculars turned around backwards act as a magnifying glass so you can inspect every bug and leaf in your proximity in excruciating detail until the birds get more interesting. I hope you got the bins back to their owner, I’d be gutted to lose mine.

You could do a tour of slate quarries here in Scotland. Ballachulish, The Slate Islands (Easdale, Luing, Seil, and Belnahua) and Cullipool (Isle of Luing) :)
