Today I’m reacting to 7 things that are FREE in the UK but cost money in the USA — and as an American… I already know this is going to hurt 😭💀

From healthcare to everyday public services, there are so many differences between life in the UK and the U.S. that genuinely surprise me. Some of these are things Americans just accept as normal… until you realize other countries don’t deal with them the same way.

As an American reacting to UK life and culture, this is one of those videos that really makes you stop and think.
😳 Which one shocked you the most?
🇬🇧 What else is free in the UK that Americans pay for?
🇺🇸 Americans… are we okay? 😭

No society can legitimately call itself civilised if a sick person is denied medical aid because of lack of means

All banks in the UK legally have a free bank account available.

My wife was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer, admitted to hospital with the week and operated on spent 4 days in intensive care and transferred to the general surgery ward for two weeks and sent home on sick leave for 6 months, then brought back in for check ups where she was given the all clear. Nil charge plus full pay from work which she didn't return to till a year after surgery. I love living in this country.

Imagine having to make a choice between potentially dying OR being heavily in debt. Absolutely mental.

Scotland's Baby Box is wonderful and free to every new born baby.

Both my girls were breach (and they haven't changed how stubborn they are 😂) but the NHS weighed up the risk and booked my wife in for two caesarian sections. Both girls born healthy, my wife recovered from the surgery. And cost me nothing because already paid through my taxes. I honestly don't get how America can claim to be the greatest nation on earth and not provide universal healthcare. I'm not even really left wing but I still feel that should just be a basic human right.

my mother suffers from dementia, she just got out of a 2 week hospital stay. the NHS have now provided a bed at home that raises etc, with padded sides. she's getting regular nurse and carer visits. lots of medication. all free.

thankful for the NHS

Gosh this is so sad. It's 2 am in the UK. I just got off the phone with urgent care (a service for emergencies which is not life threatening) as I'm feeling very poorly. Within 10 mins I got a ring back from a GP, received medical advice and my prescriptions sent to a pharmacy open now. Prescription is £9. We really are fortunate and I'm so proud to have the NHS.

The US is not a country, it is a Business.
I recently saw the prices for Yosemite National Park. For a typical family with 2 kids the price for the day is $100 each + $45 for the car, so $445 !

The free bank account thing is crucial to tackle homelessness and social mobility.

You can't rent without a bank account. You can't find employment without a bank account.
Anything at all that needs a credit score.
More and more companies are cashless or online only.

The free bank accounts help prevent homelessness, unequal access to markets and employment.

I will applaud the original creator for using the word "free" properly and not saying FOR free.
It isn't higher education the US needs, it's basic education.

6:21 worth noting that in England, you only pay back your student loan when you’re earning a certain amount, and even then it’s deducted from your salary like a tax. If (like me) you have maternity leave, you’re not earning the amount needed and so you don’t pay it while you’re off work. It also gets written off after so many years, so it’s actually better to pay minimally until it gets written off and we never actually pay it back (that’s for most people, such as myself as a teacher, not the high earners).

I’m over. 65, I have 4 prescription drugs, two for blood high pressure, 1 gastro drug and 1 for cholesterol, cost Zero. My father was on dialysis for 15 years, cost at point of need, zero, although not perfect we love our NHS, and never need to worry about our health conditions bankrupting us 👍

& another bonus about free National Parks in the UK is that you won't be eaten by a bear. In the words of the Pub Landlord himself, '' We do have wildlife, but it's not that wild, it's not as if you're going to be hunted down by a pack of squirrels''

How can the USA be $40 trillion in debt and yet do sweet FA for its citizens? The American public are being taken for a ride.

I had an accident. My collar bone broke few places. 4 ribs broke. My lung collapsed.
I intitially seen in A&E. (Urgent care).
I was not dying so. Patched up. Referred to see two consultant doctors.
One for lung. One for broken bones. Seen in two weeks.
Lung would be fine reinflate itself. But i was monitored. Few options with bones. But they\me chose surgery. Bone grafts from pelvis. Placed into collar bone. Metal plate screwed it all together.
I then got 6 months phsio therapy.

Never cost me anything. Just my taxes that i happily pay.
