Evan was doing what the rest of us can see:  A study of the SWNA pilot charts for the Fall will show a pretty similar picture.  Bigger sailboats with biggish engines now typically ignore the typical I65 Route and leave from the Bahamas rather than the SE U.S. coast.  Evan's doing it the lower latitude way, which engineless is also  the tougher way. Excellent choice to heave to, Evan.

The Gathering Fronts (Day Nine)
Barometer’s dropping, the clouds convene,  
A front approaches—what does it mean?  
Cumulus armies march in disguise,  
Rain or mere drizzle? No one’s wise.  
Wind vectors wobble, gusts undecide,  
Evan’s the captain, but weather’s the guide.  
Puerto Rico whispers, “My child, sail on—  
Though I miss you dearly, the squalls will be gone.”  

Companions of Calm (Day Ten)
Perfect sailing, the hat retired,  
Hair in the breeze, spirits inspired.  
A whale appears, majestic and grand,  
Filmed at last by Evan’s hand.  
Rupert the bird, with thirst to quench,  
Sips from a lid, ignores Evan’s bench.  
The wind goes silent, the sea holds still,  
Knock on wood—pray for Aeolus’ will.  
Night rains fall, with mystery deep,  
Caribbean secrets the sailors keep.  

Tricks of the Trade Winds (Day Eleven)
Cloud pockets scatter, rain bursts surprise,  
Sails demand labor, no rest for the eyes.  
Every decision, the sea rearranges,  
Plans dissolve in watery changes.  
By dawn he’s weary, ropes pulled tight,  
Yet Evan whispers the wind just right.  
Puerto Rico sighs, “My winds drift south,”  
But St. Martin calls with a sailor’s mouth.  
Europeans guess, but they’ll never know,  
Caribbean weather puts on its show.  
Smooth sailing follows, the day ends bright,  
Evan smiles—“Interesting,” said with delight.
