She actually said skellington !

So many attractions like museums, libraries and the like are free as it is felt that educational content should be available to all whatever your financial ability

The museum is free but they do ask for a donation which I gladly make, same goes for the British Museum which is my favourite.

Back in the dark days of Maggie Thatcher, they turned it from free to paying but later it became free again. You once could walk through the 'Earth Galleries' connecting it to the nearby Science Museum but that changed a while ago. Reserve the entire day for your first visit. BTW, you get to it by walking through a long tunnel from South Kensington tube station, so dont go up to ground level there, just head for the signposted tunnel to the museums (follow the crowd!). You can get into the NH Museum gardens via an exit on your left through a lovely landscaped garden with big ferns. The building itself is beautiful. The museums do rerquire you to book a free time slot, its intended to smooth out hordes of vistors preventing crowds swamping the place (it was infamous once for long lines waiting to get in).

London calling: Not sure booking a time slot in advance for the Natural History Museum is necessary or even that beneficial. The ‘side’ entrance on Exhibition Road usually has less of a queue than the main entrance. Other famous museums close by are The Science Museum and (my favourite) The Victoria and Albert Museum. The best tube station for all three is South Kensington.

I spend whole days at the London museums. I'm lucky to live close enough.

Just what I needed after the 💩 day I have had. Thanks.

There used to be a fee to enter but back when a particular government obtained power they were made free. Been that way for some years now.

There are old films of Tasmanian Devils, but she probably was referring to everyone’s favourite…. TAZ!! 🎉😂

Also of note, not really mentioned but I’ll let you do your homework, is the incredible building. Just look at the finish to the walls and ceilings, again, you need to research the building as that’s another video!! Live your reactions, can’t wait for you to visit!! 🎉

Franchesca  You should check out the other two museums that are close by The Victoria and Albert  (Art and design)  and the Science Museum. Both free, well worth a visit and you'll need a few hours for each.

Museums can get a bursary from the ministry of culture, amount pending on visitor numbers.

😍

How is this free? Museums like this are largely funded by all the U.K. taxpayers. A small donation is usually made. It means everybody can visit them. Great isn’t it! Unlike in the land of the fee where this would never happen.

Museums being free is a legacy of more generous decades in the 20th century before the state was impoverished by privatisation and the cutting of taxes on wealth and the wealthy.  It's a tradition which is maintained as a matter of national pride - pride in our history.

A Positive comment

The natural history museum is very close to the British museum

The Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum are close by.

It was built in the Victorian era when builders expected their buildings to last forever. The guide sounds a bit dippy.

It's free because we aren't money obsessed.
