fun fact: the male voice is her old vocal teacher, she recommended him when they needed a male voice for the movie. and he was the only one to believe her ability to sing, as she was rejected a lot because of her husky sound

This is the most relatable, yet underrated song in the movie.  It's beautiful in all ways. In my opinion it's one of the best pop genre songs produced in years.

The fact that you don't simply analyze the technique of the singing like most vocal coaches, but also get philosophical about the lyrics got you a subscriber,my man. This is the 3rd time I'm watching this video because I love seeing your passion and the way you break it down.

You think your kids are dragging you into watching some trash only for you to shed a tear to the powerful melodies and then absolutely ruin the movie for them by trying to belt out "cooooome take my haaaaand" at the top of your lungs lol

The mosquito in my room at 3am: 14:54

Andrew Choi is the voice of Jinu singing... and EJAE is the singing voice Rumi.  Andrew was Ejae's song writing mentor... both are failed Kpop traineess.. Andrew was part of a couple small bands but went to writing.... Now the pair of them are the 2 most successful Kpop Idols of all time with their songs spending more time in the Global top 10 than any other Kpop song in history. our King Andrew & Queen EJAE  👑🎤🎶

EJAE, who sang for Rumi, has an inspirational story.  She was a K-pop Idol reject.  She co-wrote "Your Idol." I can't help but think that the lyric in that song, "Thank you for the pain, because it got me going viral." Is her victory shout.

What's amazing is how well Ejae and Andrew are not just singing, but are actively acting. What strikes me about this performance is their ability to make the whole things sound so intimate, like lovers, in the dark, whispering to each other their desires, hopes and fears. The soaring voices reflect the emotional swell, but it all still remains intimate and personal and vulnerable.  Other versions of this I've heard can sing soft, and breathy and also soar, but I've not heard any others that act as well as these two, so the emotions don't hit as hard.

Jinu's lines in the rapping part, to me, reflect his desperation to feel the hope, to believe that he actually could hope like Rumi, that he could break his cycle of suffering and shame. He doesn't trust any hope, but he so desperately wants to. It's only when they begin singing together does he allow himself to enter into the vulnerability and hope Rumi is offering.

Andrew Choi is super talented, and his voice is naturally very high. I totally believe that he and Ejae blend together that well. They've known each other for many years, and he was a mentor to her when she first left the Kpop training system. It was Andrew who got her into the song-writing boot camp that led to her first big hits.

We know that they are submitting Golden to the Oscars for best original song, but they can submit two songs. I think they should submit this song as well, and my dream is to have Ejae and Andrew singing this live during the show. I'd watch the hell out of that.

Best duet I've heard in a kids movie. This tops A whole new world, imho

Every time you react, I'm amazed at how well you can describe what's happening in the song.

The production is amazing, when she sings "free", she delivers it very well, but there's also a lot of reverb/shimmer that adds this texture on the highs that is so satisfying. This is more typical to ambient/electronic music, love how they implemented it in this song.

Can't wait for What It Sounds Like reaction .

Ejae, Ejae, Ejae. What a beautiful song writing and vocal performance by her.

what started out as a movie for the younger generation has turned into something their parents could appreciate as it touches on many of our insecurities.  This song in particular caused me to shed many tears.  The last line of the sound  I'm sure many could relate to because so many of us carry burdens much of our lives and if we could only "let the past be the past until it's weightless" would heal many of our traumas.  Great reaction as always!

Dudeeeeeee I have seen so many reaction videos to this song but this approach??? I swear made this song so much more special thank you so much

I'm extremely impressed by his knowledge. I'm not a singer and I don't even sing good but I love watching voices getting explained

15:29 the mosquitos when i'm trying to sleep

10:58 I think the artificial effects are deliberately used as part of the story. If you watch the movie you’ll understand, especially when it gets to the denouement and What It Sounds Like where the voices are lower, more human and ‘genuine’ (it reprises parts of Golden but again, more ‘real’). Wonder if you’ll agree though!

"Free" feels like a song I always knew, but never heard before... which is a very odd feeling 😅
