F1 merchandise is getting more expensive but is the quality getting worse?

I LOVE F1 merch, but when you're paying serious amounts for a shirt, jacket or cap, shouldn't it actually feel worth the money?

In this video, I look at why Formula 1 merch feels like a rip-off, how modern F1 clothing compares to the rugged, embroidered merchandise of the 1990s and 2000s, and whether the problems with Castore's F1 merchandise have pushed teams towards suppliers like Puma and Adidas.

For my Ferrari merch, I go to the PUMA website and buy the plain shirt (not F1), just plain. Then I buy the embroidered sponsor patches and sew them on. Problem solved. You get a wicked shirt for less than the F1 merch. I've got friends who've asked me to sew them up their favorite team. I now have a whole collection that last years.

Franco releasing a bunch of PNGs for fans to make their own DIY merch is so iconic to me. Pretty sure he also mentioned to buy the fake stuff on a podcast.

My issue is that people keep paying for mediocre merchandise. Too pricey? Don't buy it. Bad quality? Don't. Buy. It. Just stop buying.

The problem is that they ask way to much for simply a plain shirt with sponsors on it, it’s not special or special designed like (special) football shirts. In the cycling world this would be free giveaway advertisements, instead of paying 40 euros for the same cap.

Same in football. Having 90s and early 00s shirts that have withstood the test of time and look basically the same whereas printed logo shirts from 2025 that have already peeled and cracked is horrific

Castores quality was shocking when they manufactured the kit for Newcastle United. Tried to push themselves as high end clothing manufacturer , but they are no where near that

Total rip off... but i get it. I had Schumis 2003 season cap and was so proud of it. its just like football fans wearing their team jersey. But i totally agree with you, they just too greedy nowadays and its EVERY TEAM doing it. not ONE is trying to give you proper quality
