This video is CURSED, y'all... I tried to make it once and had to scrap the whole thing due to Reasons(tm) (the reason is that I didn't like it so I reworked the whole thing from the ground up).  This was supposed to go out like 2 weeks ago but then some of the audio corrupted and also my editing software crashed twice while editing and I've NEVER had these kinds of issues before.  What the heck.  What is this.  WHY IS MY VIDEO POSSESSED BY FARA PHOENIX

19:40 Andrew has survived purely out of nepotism both in and out of universe.

justice for the Star Fox girlies

The biggest hole in the Fay/Bill theory is that Bill is a reference to William Grey from Independence Day, to round out the massive Independence Day reference that Katina is.

Amalia: Second to character assassination.

Command Krystal: You called!?

"Whoever wins employee of the year, your fursona gets to be canon."-starfox character creation process, probably.

I can't believe I am actually saying this but Star Fox could stand to be a little more like Sonic the Hedgehog in this regard.

People spent years hating on the extended cast of Sonic's friends, but recently Sonic has struck a great balance between keeping the games not too cluttered with side characters, while showing lots of respect and fanservice to the very deep lore of Sonic's very long history of games, comics, and other media. This is to the point they have hired people like Ian Flynn as lore consultants. It is affirming as a long time fan to see the deep cut references. Even if some of it might be obvious nostalgia pandering, it does feel nice to have a unified universe where even obscure characters continue to be acknowledged.

In contrast, Star Fox, with far fewer games and source materials, is constantly rebooting its scenario and tossing great characters in the dustbin.

There were plenty of opportunities, even in the scope of a loyal remake of Star Fox 64 with more cinematic cutscenes, to make references to the Lylat System at large beyond SF64. Even just a namedrop or two of characters beyond that game would be sorely appreciated. But it seems once again the universe just gives us Lylat Wars...and only Lylat Wars.

This video really helps put into perspective just how many Star Fox characters there are... and it makes me upset that Nintendo has barely done anything with almost all of them for years! (This is why the fan projects are so special.)

My headcanon is that Slippy was hired as an engineer, but Fox had 4 Arwings and slim cash reserves when he inherited the company and couldn't afford another pilot, so he shoehorned Slippy into also flying with the team.

God if only Miyamoto didn't have such a deathly Lore Allergy...

I imagine Fara would have gotten an administrative role similar to General Pepper, or Peppy in Assault and Command. Being the daughter of a ship magnate, she'd definitely have connections of sorts. She was basically Star Fox's Princess Peach, so I can totally imagine her getting into Cornerian politics.

One thing I like about Miyu and Fay is that, unlike Bill and Kat, they feel a lot more "duo coded". They can work well as fellow mercenaries that are more likely to work with team starfox on a mission as opposed to how team star wolf generally always opposes them.

Algy disappeared seemingly without a trace when Star Fox 2 was cancelled, but I think Dash Bowman from Star Fox Command was inspired by certain aspects of him. Dash is related to Andross like Andrew later would be, but unlike Andrew he's not a villainous character (far from it, he actually looks up to the Star Fox team), and also like Algy he's a skilled pilot in his own right.

I'd love to see them work Fay and Miyu into more games. They would have their work cut out for them as far as not making Miyu too similar to the reboot's Kat; but for Fay I find the concept of a rich, aristocratic lady giving up her cushy life to enlist in the Cornerian Army and actually thriving in it a pretty interesting and unique one.

7:07  Oh my god, YES DUDE

Slippy's new dialogue lost his "team amateur" archetype, and made him dangerously close to Big Bang Theory Sheldon levels of  DANGEROUSLY OBLIVIOUS to his mistakes, while only excitedly remarking about new tech you'll come across narratively or in-game.

Regarding Algy/Andrew, the Imamura concept piece also has Wolf wearing an eye patch as he does in 64, so to me it reads like an intermediate state between the two games.

Regarding the theory about Katt and Bill; it is 100% correct, but not the way most people think with regards to Bill and Fay.

Miyu was made early in Star Fox 2's dev cycle some time after Fara, and was kept all the way up to its cancelation, recieving nothing more than the occasional tweak or design alterations. It was clear they liked her in concept, and so with the cancelation, they simply retooled her into Katt and called it good enough (Zero, and now 2026, cementing this with Katt suddenly wearing Miyu's earring now)

Fay on the other hand, was a revolving door of concepts. Initially she was a human, then replaced with a sheep, multiple concepts for other pilot species were drawn, until finally after multiple different dogs, they settled on the Fay we all know. When the game was cancelled, they binned Fay, and simply went back to the drawing board to make a completely new character to occupy the same general spot parallel to Miyu-Katt.

Fara almost appeared in the unreleased Star Fox 2.  She was a pilot in early protoypes of the game.  Though sadly this test pilot never got her time to shine.

I think you hit upon the need for the world to feel more lived in we need to see more fringe characters.

Other mercs, other members of the cornarian defense force, more gangs, members of other planet's militaries (if that becomes a thing), andross sympathizers.

And there is PLENTY of room in there for these characters.

I miss our wife too, Amalia 😭
(Also, I’m sorry to hear about all the issues you had with this video! I’m glad things worked out and you were able to release it! ^_^)
