Fraudlux vs Ravenpeak

THE ABILITY TO JUMP 🗣️

Ridley, a dragon that only vocalizes in screeches, is more of a character than Sylux.

I played those 3 games and I confirm you missed absolutely nothing on Sylux. You know as much on him as the most nerdy Metroid fan no problem.

Easy rewrite.
-He hates the Federation because his CO who sent him on a suicide mission got a slap on the wrist while his whole squad lost their lives.
-Because of that he believes there's no justice in the galaxy, and that the only way to survive is to look out for yourself.
-He sees Samus as his ultimate test. She's the best of the best, so if he can beat her then he'll know for sure he's the strongest.

Here's my "hire me nintendo" backstory for sylux.
After getting drunk in a space bar he decided he would make mortal enemies with the 2nd person he would see that night. First he saw the federation logo on the public hologram news and then he saw Samus.  He was too drunk to know who he saw first and decided to hate both to make it easier.
This also explains why he gets washed in the first confrontation with Samus in 4. Poor fella is too sloshed to fight and has to use look-alikes to give the appearance of a threat. The healing pod is just a space drunk tank for him to sober up. Metroid prime 5 promises to introduce a fully lucid sylux that is capable of passing a threat level beyond what a breathalyzer can detect.
Make check to cash Nintendo.

I just can't understand the reasoning for him to comically fall on his ass within the first 20 seconds of his "grand" entrance. You might as well show him slipping on a banana peel! 🤡🍌

"Appeared" is a pretty big wording for him in Prime 3 lmao

you know I could forgive this Character portrayal if the Character we were talking about wasn't the most anticipated Villain in the entire Franchise since Prime 3! it's like they did everything in their power to intentionally make him a Loser for sh*ts and giggles!

they literally did nothing with him, and the things they did do with him I wish they hadn't!

I believe the directors wanted to do the same thing with Sylux that they did with Dark Samus in Prime 2. In that game, Dark Samus also has little connection to the main plot; she has her own objectives and occasionally crosses paths with Samus during the campaign and tries to defeat her. But in Prime 2, Dark Samus works much better because she has a much greater presence throughout the game, and there are files that delve deeper into her character. Not to mention that she really seems to be a potential threat to Samus. Sylux, on the other hand, is more lost than Zoro in Visionros and just seems like a spoiled child who got angry that Samus got more screen time than him at work.

Hes got a cool design I guess

I've been adamant that Prime 4 should've leaned into the mad max inspiration and seen samus wake up months later to a primitive archaistic society that Sylux has elected himself leader of, with Space Pirate underlings painting themselves in his colours and wearing armour in his image.

The bike could be a big part of the whole culture of this world, with Sylux having his own and samus actually upgrading it through a mixture of crafting and discovering new parts and materials.

You could go further with this, have samus wake up outside her varia suit and piece it back part by part or find replacement pieces, hell you could never give her arm cannon back so she can actually ride the bike and give her a sword or something instead. Lean into the new idea not flirt with it

"Ridley in Super Metroid doesn't exactly win his encounter with Samus like Raven Beak does"

Yes. He does. Unless you play really well. Reason he stops attacking is because he figures the self destruct sequence will finish you off, which it doesn't. Unless you really suck, lol.

Between the interview confirming that they soft reboot the game at Retro well into development, and having tossed out the original script that Tanabe himself rewrote, I can't help but feel that everything that was meant to be interesting about Sylux ended up on the cutting room floor.

Tanabe did allegedly have more planned that he layed out for his successor.

I think the secret ending cinematic is salvageable without needing to change it, but a lot more would certainly need to be added.
Like make it so maybe Sylux knew Samus from back in her federation days. Make it so he was top dog until she showed up, play into him being a raw hater.

But by itself? Absolutely agree that he is basically a nothing burger of a villain.

I mean if it was up to me... I would have added whole new area to the game that functions a bit like the Valhalla in Prime 3, except it's larger section of the GF base from Tanamar, but with a crashed Pirate Destroyer crashed in it, and have it contain scan logs from him and the pirates (also have pirates on Viewros.. enemy Variety in Prime 4 was lacking, but they had pirates and barely used them?! Weavel should have been a shoe-in a boss FFS).
One of the Prime series biggest strengths was the scans. But 4 dropped the ball and most scans outside the key lamorn ones are all.. nothing. They could have added a lot to fill in voids in this regard.

during my first playthrough I felt the absence of sylux for half of the game, then I got to the desert cutscenes with the sniper soldier that tells you his backstory and gives you items and I had this head canon that oh this guy is totally sylux and they're sneakily felling you his backstory without you even knowing, I felt so smart for figuring it out and let the absence of sylux go... and then it gets revealed that sylux was really nowhere to be seen in the game and I was EXTRA disappointed.
Now I'm not a writting expert but all the pieces were there and it could've made the game so much better having that twist at the end instead of what we had

The thing is, though his story presence is genuine ass, every single one of his 1v1s is so fucking good. Phase 3 of the final boss genuinely blows every other boss in the Prime saga out of the water it's so fucking good.

He's like... the anti-fraud. Completely auraless in the story but then locks the hell in when the actual gameplay kicks in. He's the diametric opposite of Zant

You should check out Ridley in the Metroid manga. Top tier villain 👌

Tanabe desecrates another beloved franchise yet again. Thank god they finally got rid of him shortly after.

As someone who has been there since prime hunters came out, I can confidently say that I feel scammed with what they did with sylux in prime 4. Such a massive build up for a crybaby that doesn't even get enough screentime nor is explored enough through the entire game (not to mention his freaking voice which literally kills the character).

Sylux leading the Space Pirates is really dumb. Why would the pirates follow a human? Weavel being their commander would make sense. Sylux should have had his own army or just been a lone wolf.
