In legends some of them were force sensitive iirc. But they never got the glory of a Sith Lord or even an Inquisitor.

The royal guards are some of the most iconic factions in All Star Wars period

Nobody expects the Imperial inquisition

Imagine your job involving listening to Palpatine's cackling for 23 years. Worse than death

I wish we got Red Guards as reinforcement options in Battlefront 2, nobody could convince me that it wouldn't be fun rolling up beside Palpatine with a squad of Red Guards

Being a Royal Guard is to be a prop for the Dark Lord and the Emperor as they are little more than meatbags to shield the Emperor from danger, and errand boys for him if he wants something done without the Imperial Military knowledge.

Crimson Empire is one of my favorite comic series.

(Yoda enters the Chancellor's Podium Office Room).
Red Guard #1: Oh, look, it's Master Yoda.
Red Guard #2: Hi.
(Yoda slams them both into the wall with the Force).
Red Guard #1: Hey, what did we do!?

It's interesting how despite the skill Royal Guards had, they were still seen as little more than disposable pawns to Sidious and Vader.

"A Royal Guardsman never seeks special privileges, ever. His entire goal in life is to serve the Emperor, and the New Order he created. This is his goal in life, and his desire in death." ―Grodin Tierce

Also getting forced pushed by a little green goblin is on the resume.

Also fighting force users.

The infamous red cloak. To be a leader you let the followers know you bleed for them. The knights of the old republic and the imperial royal guard

The Crimson Empire were the first comics I read as a kid after discovering the Expanded Universe. I find myself rereading it from time to time and the nostalgia still hits.

Disney should do a series on their training and selection. Do it on a Red Guard who was dying of a mysterious illness and did a tell all interview before his death.

A shame you didn't include the deleted scene where Vader tries to talk to the Emperor, but Jerjerod is there flanked by two Imperial Royal Guards and they raise their force pikes against Vader.
