A Roman governor who had watched thousands of men die was surprised by just one thing: that Jesus was already dead after only six hours, when crucifixion was built to take days.

This is not a film about faith. It's a two-thousand-year-old cold case with a single question at its center: Did Jesus actually die on that cross?

Following the work of author David Mirsch (The Open Tomb), we treat the Gospels as testimony, Josephus as an outside witness, and Roman history and medicine as forensic evidence. We lay out the strongest case that Jesus may have survived the cross — the six-hour death, the unbroken legs, the timed drink, the burial, and the tomb that was found not just empty, but open — and we put the strongest objections to it at full strength, before handing you the verdict.

You decide.

David looks like he would be at home at our local magician's circle meetings .. apart from being a simple, humble gardener, I have a fair bit of experience at animal handling .. so when a good friend of many years became a stage magician, I wound up wrangling his rabbits. Ways of surviving an apparent crucifixion were one of the things that we talked about at length when not working out how to perform a teleportation in the round without killing off a twin .. and i bet if you're smart, you can work out that one, too.

Running the operation as a magic trick fits easily within the given parameters, with varying degrees of risk depending on how much control the illusionist has of the scene going in .. confidants within the local legions, the patron to finance the entire thing (did David remember to follow the money?) and even the possibility of a double - though a dark twist on the prospect - being used who winds up dying for real while the performer makes his exit to the East, and away from Roman eyes. I've heard some of these theories .. in Citra, Bahrain and elsewhere when conversing with other wizards, charlatans and dabblers in the arts. Its so much easier these days, with the internet.

It is easier, still to create an illusion in media.

The Jesus problem is not one of survival or resurrection .. it is a question of which figure in the story is the man, if any? Does the miracle worker teach children to read Hebrew, or is this a lesson added later, with a nod to post temple theology for those who can grok the meaning of the Hebrew word play? Is the crucified man truly the brother of 'James the Just' .. or is this merely a fable told to impress the power and need of forgiveness among bitter religious rivals? Did the man, if there was a man come from the Nazarene sect, or did the Nazarenes seize on the story to make him 'theirs'? Why would a Dionysian sect - a group of pagans with their own image problems - claim this Jewish man for their risen god .. could there be a connection to his alleged genealogy to an ancient mountain kingdom where wine was invented, and the honey known to impart visions and madness?

The answers will be revealed .. and the stones will speak 😉

If he died so early on the cross, it would not be unusual for anyone who was scourged the way Jesus's has been reported. Some people died from the blood lose and shock before being crucified.

Jesus surviving the crucifixion is the only acceptable answer. Coming back to life isnt gonna happen 😅

Humans constantly don't know things
But will tell you why it happened and how it works anyway
And then physically fight people who disagree because truth is an outgrowth of pride

@Squatch100 1 month ago

It's a neat theory. I'm not sure if a man with giant iron nails driven through his calcaneus bones would be able to walk.

@mosaicthing5700 1 month ago

A 2nd heel bone with a nail from a probable Roman crucifixion victim was found in the UK in 2017. Look up Skeleton 4926, Fenstanton, Cambridgeshire, UK.
