When I go shopping before I purchase an item I think of outfits I can create with clothes I already own, if can't think of at least four outfits then I don't purchase said item.

Nice tips! One thing I started last month is taking pictures of my outfits every day and adding them to an album in my phone called “outfit menu” and it’s made getting dressed so much easier because I can just reference preset outfit combos that I love but would sometimes forget about putting together.

I have a colleague who has kept a spreadsheet of every outfit she wears to work for the past fifteen years. My colleagues and I think it’s silly and over the top, and we tease her for it, but I think it’s a neat idea. The spreadsheets can help her keep track of the last time she wore a piece, the kinds of outfits she prefers, and help her come up with new combinations of outfits quickly.

I mostly agree, this is a great video, but "why would you own items that are a watered down version of your style" 1.: because work 2.: because weather. I have a rain coat I feel very meh about, but guess what I've been wearing the most in the past month? the fuck ass rain coat. I have yet to find a rain coat I like. it does its job. it's a nice colour. (same applies to both deep winter and hot ass summer fits)

Something that has really helped me is meeting a group of local women who are likeminded but wildly different styles and ages anywhere from late 20s to early 50s who get together 2X per year and swap clothes and accessories (no money changing hands, free for all). I still donate a few items, but it's so much easier and more fun to clear out my closet of things that don't suit me when I know I'll be passing it on directly to someone who is shorter, fancier, sportier, or just suits the item better. It's awesome.

About the watered down outfits. I have realised that since I work a lot from home and am sick often its important to buy cute comfy clothes, so that on those days (which are most days) its fine not to wear jeans but also good not to wear a gray pyjama with holes in it. I have so many cute summer and party outfits, but my life is 80% rain and comfort 😂. Sooo long story short, make your wardrobe match your life and buy cute practical items.

I still have quite a bit of clothes in my closet, but ironically buying 98% of my wardrobe from Goodwill has made picking clothing pieces in the morning a LOT easier and im more likely to wear it. Even if the material is not the best, the fact that I did not spend more than $10 per item helps

I've started "outfit prepping" the way some other people meal prep. Sunday afternoons, I check the weather forecast and my personal schedule and pick out a whole week of outfits.

Of course, I can switch it up when the day arrives, but it has relieved me of throwing on the most basic version of my personal style to run out the door as quickly as possible.

Adding to what others said about thinking about possible outfit combos before purchases: Digitizing my wardrobe was a huge game changer! All of my colors now work perfectly together, I can see what I already own and I can whip up outfits before I hit „buy“! And when I come across inspiration I can immediately create my own version with clothes I already have.

idk if other people experience this but i definitely have days where i WANT to wear a watered down version of my style. when im already overwhelmed, its easier for me to kind of mellow myself out, as it makes navigating the world easier. im autistic though, that might be why. i’m sure the advice works for most people, im just curious if other people experience this too! (or maybe you do too?)
