I'm Japanese. Thank you for speaking out about manners. Recently, the number of tourists has increased, and many people don't follow the rules, which irritates many Japanese people. However, we welcome tourists who come to Japan with respect. I hope this video will spread.

One very important thing to note: Shrines are religious facilities, and even today most Japanese people worship the Shinto gods. Temples should be treated with respect, just like cathedrals, mosques, and synagogues, and torii gates are not just garden decorations. The reason that shrine approaches are bustling with food stalls is because the Japanese gods enjoy seeing humans having fun. I repeat: Shrines are not theme parks. Visit reverently, and have fun afterwards.

If you’re visiting Japan, it’s a good idea to remember the word sumimasen. You can use it like “excuse me” to get someone’s attention or when making your way through a crowd. It’s also a useful word to say if you accidentally bump into someone. People will appreciate it, and it leaves a polite impression.

With over a billion content online about Japan.. you do an amazing job explaining and breaking things down so they are easier to digest.. 🏆🥇

I’m a Japan born, Hawaii raised Japanese-American. Loved all the information and as a person who visits Japan often, but doesn’t live there, learned a few things from you and agreed with all the other things I did know about. 😊 Great content. ❤❤❤

As well as not sticking chopsticks into rice, Japanese people are also very averse to leaving food leftovers. They are told to thank the person who harvested the food, cooked the meal, and served it. Therefore, it is very sinful to leave food uneaten. If there is something you cannot eat, it is good manners to ask in advance to be removed or changed to something else.

旦那さんに激しく同意です😂
ありがとうございます

It already makes me very happy just knowing that people from overseas are watching videos like this before traveling to Japan.

I believe that Japanese culture is built on “thoughtfulness.”
I hope you enjoy not only traveling in Japan, but also experiencing and appreciating its culture.

The idea is underrated It deserves more views.

You mentioned you can not talk “big voice” in the train, but actually you can not use phone call in the train AT ALL which means you can not phone call even whisper voice. That relates medical reason like Pacemaker, also public manners. You need to pick up phone? Japanese people understand if you said “oh, I was in the train” they will understand. Just call back later.

大学の講義みたいで良い動画ですね
日本語は話せなくても"すみません"だけでかなり印象変わります
良き旅行を楽しんでください

日本の景色、文化を楽しんでくださっているようで嬉しいです。

The kind of "washoku" (Japanese cuisine) served at traditional Japanese inns is probably different from what you might imagine — it's more traditional and somewhat simple.
When Japanese people say "washoku," they usually mean this kind of modest, traditional food.
It might not suit everyone's taste, but if you’re curious and wonder, “Is this considered washoku?” feel free to ask — I’ll answer as a Japanese person.

I’ve surprised how you pronounce city names fluently and now understand why as your husband is Japanese LOL. People watching this channel, she is perfect for preparation of your 1st trip to Japan❤

We went to Kyoto from April 13th to 21st this year. Still plenty of cherry blossoms around though you miss the initial blooming which is spectacular. We also missed the prime cherry blossom pricing. We got great weather. One rainy day but 18-28 and lovely every other day.
We didn't use data in Japan. We brought cash. We stayed at a hotel at Haneda the day we got in. Slept went to the Onsen and next day  caught a cab to Shinigawa station and took the Shinkasen to Kyoto.  Amazed to watch it load and unload from 45 seconds to 2 minutes. The hotel stay Helped us recover from the 13 hour flight and we made a calm transition to where we were staying in Kyoto. We travelled with one back pack each.
We studied a little Japanese before we went. Kyoto was much better for english speakers than I would have imagined. Also ran into french, russian and german speaking staff.  the little japanese we  had was appreciated nut far from essential. Makes for nicer interactions.  Lot of no touch payment set ups (left over from covid?) that were tricky to navigate but after one or two seemed to go smoothly.
Google translate was useful but in kyoto at least by the time I had struggled at a kiosk for a couple minutes there was a helpful staff member guiding me through. Probably trickier when if they are busier.
People were lovely. It was so quiet.
We got a lot of mileage out of "Haji-mi mash-te?" Pleased to meet you ?  And "totemo O-i-shi" very delicious. Got to use "Nihongo-ga skoshi Wakarimasu"  I understand a little japanese and once got to say "Watashi-no nama-ai wa Scotto-Desu"  My name is Mr Scott.
Never got to use "Biru nee-hon on a gaishimasu." Though i did get a kirin a couple times and a couple Kyoto micro brews. Kix was one.
Learning the polite  words is good because people are using them all the time "Dozo" to let you go ahead of them. Kudasai-please, Tsumi Masen - excuse me.  You recognize them when they are being said to you. It's helpful.
Food was so good. The Pineapple was great. Daifuku was amazing.
Matcha in Kyoto was amazing. Lot of fun.

Most Japanese people don't speak or understand English, so it's important to have a translation app.

Thank you so much for the incredibly informative video. I’m taking a last minute trip in October to Tokyo. Will be diving into lots of information to help the trip out.
